Has the WFNX sale been cancelled?

Something is up - look at the FCC Daily Digest

Could just be that they need more paperwork of some sort, returned it, and they'll re-submit. But yes it sounds like they approved then rescinded it.
Or I note that KV posted on boston radio interest that maybe the WODS flip ruined CC's plans and maybe they're backing out?

Who knows..

..but if so, trying to sell to someone else? I don't know if it would happen but if so, imagine Entercom...
"WRKO FM 101.7" anybody? (FNX fans would be just as upset if Howie turned up on 101.7!)

You got to wonder - did 103.3 flipping ruin what CC wanted to do and they have decided to pay Mindich the $3M and walk away.

Something happened.

Could be. Am talking about it with Mark S on twitter right now.

Entercom buy 101.7? "WRKO-FM" or bring back Mike
CBS? FM home of WBZ Newsradio (as Mark says, make that WBZ-FM and 98.5 becomes WBCN, the Sports Hub)
Entercom--put WAAF // there, sell off 97.7 or use for something else?
Cumulus entry in Boston?

And again it could just go through as planned and this is just a slight bump. No official word yet of the
FCC approval, less than a wk before the switch, but it could still well go to CC.

Most Clear Channel stations are licensed not as Clear Channel Communications, but as other corporate names. "AMFM" was the former Chancellor group acquired by CC a decade ago. AMFM is listed on the FCC database as the owner of Kiss 108 (and I assume the rest of the Boston CC cluster).

WODS flip would not affect CC's decision to purchase WFNX - after all, WODS flipped to CHR - pretty much the one format everyone can agree is NOT going on 101.7.

If anything, the WODS/Amp move changed CC's mind about what to DO with 101.7 - they could've been planning for talk or spanish and now leaning toward Classic Hits/Adult Hits now that both WODS and Mike FM are gone, leaving a hole that a 70s-80s-90s station could fill.

Format to end Fri at 7, then prob a stunt

>UPDATE: WFNX management has decided to sign off Friday at 7pm, so my set has moved up accordingly. A couple local bars are planning to stream the show so you can get together, listen, and enjoy a drink with some of the other folks mourning the passing of the best local independent commercial station we’ve ever known. I will send details as I get confirmations for the new date.

WHBA? My money's on "101.7 the Bay"... Adult Hits/

WHBA - "The Hubs Alternative"

Either maintaining the alternative format (ala 104.5 in Philadelphia) or going the Prog. Talk route. After all, the Ed Shultz show was supposed to be moving to a bigger signal.

My guess is that the “B” in WHBA would stand for Boston, like most of the other call signs used in the city that have a B in them, past or present.

And I agree with the comment above about how weird it’s been that CC has done no mention or promos of the switch on their other Boston stations. Why the big secret?

In a way it's like playing poker. You don't want to show your hand. For example in 1993 WCDJ announced that they were going to turn Country and before they could WVBF

changed to Country WCLB. (Later WKLB)

That's right and for a time there were two country stations, WCLB (later WKLB) 105.7 and WBCS 96.9 "Boston's Country Station". Eventually the two were merged onto 96.9

>>Those doubts were soon to be proven, as WKLB-FM ceased independent programming at midnight on August 24th of that year, and entered a simulcast of WBCS. The simulcast lasted until the morning of September 5, when the WKLB-FM identity and country format were consolidated on 96.9, and 105.7 was reborn as WROR
http://bostonradio.org/stations/20438

Then we had the story about how WODS was to flip to a Jack format (somehow the news got out?)
and Entercom suddenly let the word out that 93.7 would be changing from Star to something else
at 2 pm or something. We tuned in and found out about "Mike". So WODS wound up not changing after all...what if the word hadn't gotten out? 103.3 Jack or whatever, and what would 93.7 do?
Pick up oldies? Simulcast WEEI (which they would later do)? In that case the poker game becomes a chess game of moves and counter-moves.

In some cases moves are announced, way in advance, but you don't get the counter moves.
CBS announced it was killing off WBCN, Mix 98.5 was moving to 104.1 and a new sports station,
WBZ-FM the Sports Hub would debut in mid Aug of 2009. Had Entercom not been doing so
well with "Mike" and had they been more pro-active, Ent. could have easily just said "guess
what, we're gonna simulcast WEEI on 93.7 before they start Sports Hub. WE will be the first FM sports station." In that case, the move was not made. Two years and one month later, they finally
did make it.

It's poker...and it's chess.
(btw on bostonradio.org the page for 93.7 has not been updated. It still says it's Mike 93.7
with variety hits. The move to // WEEI was in Sept of last year.)
