Has This Been Done...and can it work?

I want to do a show from Arizona...that ONLY airs in the Providence market. Maybe even call it "The Ex-Rhode Islander". A mix of local and nat'l talk, with the wit and sarcasm inherent in every legit RI-er. We'd take calls, the whole bit, but we'd only do the show from a providence studio in the summertime. Making lots of public appearances when here, but NOT faking it when not here. People from RI who never moved have a very unique way of viewing the rest of the country...and I think the local calls, together with the view of a host who now sees things from the 'other side' might have legs.

Have others tried this?

I know some do local and syndicated shows. And others do shows from their homes. But does anyone do a show from a different state that ONLY airs in another DMA? Without the 'pretense' inherent in the typical voicetracking gig?

I await your comments and thanks.

Feel free to abuse my current show, it is streamed from 6a-10a Arizona time, or currently 9am-1pm YOUR time. www.knst.com

I try to replace the anger found in a lot of talk shows with humor. I said I TRY hehe.

Ah, what the hell. I've been away from Rhode Island for years and years but put many years into radio and TV in and around Providence.

Your chances of success would improve if:

1. You could find a station with some stature that would accept it.

2. You haven't lost....or can sincerely fake....the proper speech pattern/use the local jargon.

3. Your last name ends in a vowel.

Long shot, but if you were ever involved in a loud, messy felony trial that would be a plus. Especially if the case against you were dropped on some late-discovered technicality but never actually decided.

Big issue would be keeping current with Greater Providence issues, remembering that there is no life beyond Woonsocket and little beyond Warwick unless you count a few cowering in The Great Swamp.

Hehe well 2. and 3. are easy....as is the keeping up with local issues part. And heck, I can work on the high-profile scandal...

But #1 might be tough. ClearChannel gets right of first refusal...
