Has WNPT Switched To Talk?

I ask that for a reason.

Tuned in today and noticed that they were doing a simulcast of WAPI 100.5 FM from Helena/Birmingham.

I'm aware that we had some bad storms to come in last night.

That may have affected WNPT and their broadcast.

If it did, I hope they can get this station back on.

If WNPT has switched to talk, I wish them all the best with their new format.

As of Friday evening, I heard them over near Harpersville on 280, and they were still playing "Jack," or at least still playing the same format of music.

Listening here in south Shelby co, and there is a rebroadcast of WAPI-FM on 102.9 FM. The signal is very weak. I usually receive WNPT with a good signal. So far, there is no on-air mention of a simulcast with 102.9.

Strange that we have two people, one in Shelby County and one in/near Selma and both are hearing WAPI on 102.9. That sure sounds like WNPT to me. At one point there was a translator licensed in B'ham for 102.9 but I don't think it ever was on the air. It's got a CP for 92.3 now anyways.

The only other 102.9 signals are WKXX in Attalla and a translator in Huntsvegas.

Checked the hourly station ID on 102.9...no mention of WNPT...just the usual WAPI/WAPI-FM calls.

I think this is happening:

1. Tech Issues are occurring, due to the stormy weather from Monday night and/or
2. This station may be flipping its format to Talk and is doing some tweaking to their signal and sound quality.

Just my two cents.

8 pm now...Jack FM is back with adult hits as usual.
