I've listened to UK radio online for a couple of years now, and I can't help but notice that some of the main breakfast, drive time, and evening shows are *off* more than on.
Kiss100's breakfast team are off for the next two weeks. Not one week, but two. Moreover, they've already taken off a few weeks this year. I'm not sure exactly how many, but I've heard Jez Welham on that slot more than I would think is reasonable. They were out for at least a week, I think two, back in March or April.
Years ago Bam and Street would also take off big chunks of time for "holiday".
And it's not just Kiss: Capital and XFM shuffle schedules and "fill in" for others while they're away so much that I don't even expect to hear someone on a certain time slot. And I've just read on a forum that Radio One's breakfast presenter is taking two weeks off.
It seems like it's rare here in the US for a popular show to take large breaks all the time. When it happens, it's usually around December or for a few days, but not two weeks! That seems like an incredible amount of time for me, especially when it happens up to multiple times a year.
Just an observation, I suppose.
