Have Buckley and CC fired up HD Radio?

I heard a near-top-of-hour liner on WDRC-FM yesterday that went something like "Welcome to HD Radio, radio's new frontier," and sure enough, there was hash on 102.5 (Goodbye, Long Island), 102.7, 103.1 and 103.3. Moving up the dial, I noticed hash as well on 103.7 (covering up WEEI-FM), and 103.9, so I assume HD is running on 104.1 WPHH as well.

Any idea what's being streamed on the companion signals? Old-school R&B from Clear Channel? Fifties oldies from Buckley? Or are they just testing? But if they are, then why is DRC promoting it on-air?

Is that why WDRC-FM and its fidelity sounds muddier all of a sudden? The same thing seems to be the case for WPHH-FM (104.1) as well.

So all that's being offered is a higher-fidelity DRC-FM, with titles/artists displayed? No multicasting? How is that supposed to generate sales of HD receivers, except to audiophiles? And how many audiophiles listen to the kind of music played on DRC-FM, anyway?

DRC-FM has sounded like crapola for years! The very subject of their audio has been discussed here numberous times and I think it's just a sad statment on the part of Buckley's management. I cringe to think just how wonderful their HD audio must sound.

The funny thing is nobody noticed the typo on the referenced DRC-FM web page. It should read ... America's worst FM!
