Have I Died and Gone to live in Jackson, TN??

What's the deal with all the threads concerning Jackson, TN radio on the Memphis board????? Am I missing something?? Does someone actually care & I'm simply missing the point? The way I look at it is this: If Rob Grayson never worked in your market then it's not worth talking about :)Come on back, Rob & lead us out of this Jackson, TN funk. Give us more stories about the good ol days of WHBQ & WZXR. ANYTHING but this.

I asked the same thing in another thread and was quickly told this forum is labeled the following: For discussion of radio in Memphis and Western TennesseeI don't mind reading about Jackson as I do have some interests in that market. I just wonder why we have so many threads all arguing about the same thing.

good question... that's why I for one am sick of arguing and speculation... and FM sales, i didn't mean to snap at you when I posted that... so I am pulling myself out of this discussion... and focusing on my job... what I think I should have done all along... i'm going to leave the rumors to those who have nothing better to do.

I love your comment about Rob Grayson The Big Daddy! That was a great one. I have posted the same sentiment on other threads on this board. I thought that this was a forum to exchange information and ideas. Lately, it's become a battleground between those who are "in the know" and those who are "out of the loop" about what's going on in Jackson. I too, have an interest in that market because I listen frequently to Kool 103 and I have a friend who runs a station up there. Having said that, please stick with substanative issues and call a truce on all this bickering back and forth.

;D No offense taken. After all, it's just a messageboard.

And, of course...you always have the option NOT TO READ IT!It's an amazing feature like the knob (or tuner) on a radio. If you don't like what you hear...change the station or turn it off.If you don't want to read about the Jackson stuff...DON'T!!!!When people have something to say about the Memphis market, they'll say it. None of them have ever been shy. You're being kind of pompous, dude!So tell us...what does "The Big Daddy" have to say about Memphis? We'll read and not be rude about it.

There is something to be said about taking a break from endless threads on what's wrong with the Buzz and/or the Flinn stations! LOL :D

They just discovered a cool new thing in Jackson...it's called "The Internet". As you can tell by this forum, they're very excited about it...I also understand they are working on a way that may be able to help them see pictures on their radios in Jackson...city folks call it, "Television" or "TV" if you will...Can we please move all these posts to the Tennessee state board...please? No one else is on that board...DK

Yeah, my comment about civility was gentle nudge in that direction. There were 4 threads about one subject and nothing of substance. Speculation is fine, but I'm not into personal attacks...I get to attack folks in my second career.

I could regale you with tales of working for Paul Artman at WBAQ; Dan Diamond at WDDT; Bob Burton at WJDX; Glenn James at WKOR; George Klein and John Long at WHBQ; Ray Zoller at 13Q; Tommy Charles and Craig Scott at WMPS; myself at Y-16; Tom Owens, Redbeard, and Mississippi John Rivers at WZXR; Les Acree at WeMilkCows79; Art Wander, Howie Castle, and Tim Spencer at WEGR; before I bailed to watch the wheels go round and round. (Oddly enough, only the first and last ones on the list are still doing the same jobs they were when I worked with them)When the format was played from a chart on the wall, rotating the 45's from front to back, the carts from top to bottom, or the index cards from front to back. Balancing your show so that the tempo flowed, and there weren't two females back to back, or a cold ending going into a cold beginning. So there was an hour separation between Elton John songs (or at various times Bee Gees or Phil Collins/Genesis) When every station had a live all-night jock (unless they signed off at sunset or midnight). When there were guys who worked full time TAKING METER READINGS. When a production directors best friends were razor blades, splicing tape, and the SOB.I am a veritable font of dated and worthless information.AND now I AM on every morning in Jackson, TN on WKNP.

What ever happened to Rick Dees side kick and news guy on WHBQ and FM100?

Wow. Someone revived this string after 2 years?
Slow nights on the 'ol radio info.

And to the guy who STARTED this thread two years ago...why don't you do us the favor and do the first part of your catchy title, anyway? It's never too late!

Meepster, that may be a bit harsh don't you think. Although the point of "it's never too late to die" kinda sounds like a good title for a song ;D.

I, too, wonder why someone would revive a tired old thread after two years (especially with just a trite one-liner!), rather than simply start a new thread!  ::)  So Jackson, TN, gets discussed on the Memphis radio board.  So what?  Jackson is only about an hour from Memphis!  We had this discussion on the Nashville board recently about Gallatin getting too much discussion there.

And someone recently commented here about west Tennesseans taking over the Tennessee board.  ::)  Again, so what?  If only west Tennesseans (and west Tennessee natives like myself!) post on the Tennessee board, then only matters of interest to west Tennesseans will be discussed!

Besides, there's more to Tennessee than just "Rocky Top." You ain't been to Tennessee until you've been to west Tennessee!

Now put this one back to bed for another two years, but leave it dead this time!  ;D :D

If you're referring to my post on another thread that said, "Looks like this post has gone from East and Middle Tennessee to West Tennessee."

It was merely an observation.

As for West Tennessee, I have no desire to visit Tornado Alley, and from what I've heard about Memphis, I have no desire to visit there either.

I'll stick with the beautiful Mountains of East Tennessee, and Rocky Top. ;D
