Have We Come To This In Radio?

I've been reading the number of posts regarding what WIBT in Charlotte did
regarding a morning show stunt that caused criminal charges.
Over the past few years the "corporate" companies have done some things
that should be questioned by the FCC, especially when a "Entercom" station
in Sacramento conducted a contest that resulted in a listener's death.
In the past and present, those broadcasters who did stunts for prizes have
done so without harming anyone, but when owners put money before every
thing else and try to take shortcuts as in the cases mentioned above, i can
see why the radio business has issues.

I don’t think it’s just a radio thing. I think radio is just a mirroring our entire “anything goes” society. Look at what network television puts on the air and calls “entertainment”.

I’m so old I remember when you couldn’t say hell or damn on the radio.

Aah the good old days!

Do you remember in sitcoms married couples would have twin beds? They also had some kind of censorship rule that if a married couple was in bed together, at least one had to have a foot on the ground. Things have really changed!

I grew up in that era where TV portrayed a squeaky clean lifestyle. Boy did that ever warp my brain. I was shocked to find the world wasn't exactly like Ozzie and Harriet, Father Knows Best, My Three Sons, etc. I often thought it would be nice to escape reality and dive into a '60's sitcom. Apparently I was not the only one, as evidenced by the movie "Pleasantville".
