Have YOU seen 'Natallee Holloway'????

I`ve looked under my bed, in the cellar, even my truck!!!
Everyone in my stations News room is up to HERE with Holloway. They are told its GOOD for ratings. In the meantime, there are major stories that actually get dumped, cause we don`t have the air time. Their is one News person here whos actually thinking of commenting about Holloway on air! Can SOMEONE PLEASE explain why this story is SO important? Does it make the Media look bad in general? Is it all a show,or a diversion from the real news???

In Providence at least, a local newscast today (July 27th) should have included these stories:

* The extreme heat and the chance for severe weather.

* Did pieces fall off the space shuttle Discovery during yesterday's blastoff??

* The suspect in the murder of a Lincoln, Rhode Island doctor pleads innocent in a court appearance.

* British police arrest a suspect in the attempted subway bombings last week (July 21st) in London.

* Boston Red Sox star pitcher Matt Clement is injured during a game (hit in the head by a batted baseball), but has been released from a Tampa Bay hospital and is flying back to Boston with the team.

There seems to me to be nothing about the Natalee Hollaway case today to warrant an item on most radio or television news programs (except those in Birmingham, Alabama or on the island of Aruba).

Not to mention that Karl [EDIT] Rove has committed treason.

Unfortunately, Cute White Girl Gone Missing trumps all other stories on what passes for "news" these days.
Edited by cabradio on 07/28/05 12:16 AM.

I think the Media has done quite a bit on Rove, alot more than on Sandy Burger!!
Look, MR. Gallant hit a homerun with his analysis. This is the sad state of our American Media today. Important stories left in the lurch to satisfy a tabloid hunger...
Tony.

No one's saying it isn't a painful situation for the family, it's just that it isn't worthy of the crush of airtime it is getting.

Thanks, Tony for the very kind words.

I look forward to reading future comments you'll make on this and other Radio-Info.com messageboards.

Thanks Mr. Gallant!

The issue of treason far outweighs the issue of Sandy Burger who has already been punished for his crime...

Berger pleaded guilty and will at minimum have this punishment
a $10,000 fine, a three-year suspension of his security clearance
Sentencing isnt done so he may have to do some jail time with a higher fine.
he never destroyed documents as the right was able to push out in the echo machine and he did admit his crime....

What Rove and Libby (and others complicent) have done may have cost Valerie Plame her status as a NOC, but people may have died from the Brewster Jennings cover company being revealed. The larger unanswered question is how this links to the manipulating of intelligence for the war...of course this is much more horrible than Bergers removing documents....as it cost over 1700 American soldiers and countless civilian Iraq citizens their lives...

I don't find it odd when Greta Susterern or Dan Abrhams covers this stuff...its true crime stuff ....and their shows seem to make this stuff the main focus...i dont agree with the coverage but thats what the do...

When the other "news" shows lead with Cute white girl missing in Aruba...well thats just wrong....the Rove Scandal, rising oil prices, the war, etc...all deserve way more coverage that cute white girl.

>>> Doc,
Sandy Burger took original Top Secret papers from the National Archives. The papers were about what President Clinton was doing about Bin Laden in the late 1990s. Burger DESTROYED THEM. If Sandy Burgers name was Rove, YOU WOULD NEVER HEAR THE END OF IT!!! Come on Doc. What is more worth the charge of Treason than what Burger did?? Our national Media gave Sandy a BIG PASS...
My best to you,
Chatty.

I don't know what parent wouldn't be in Aruba or trying to work the issue if they couldnt get there....

That still doesn't excuse the media for ignorning other more relevant stories....

Media ignored this week:

The republican majority leader - abuse of rules to hold the vote open to pressure reps to vote for CAFTA...and this is not the first time this has happened...

Tom Delay abusing house rules and inserting his own personal piece of pork into the "Energy" porkarama bill ...over 1.5 billion dollars without one bit of debate on the floor from Republican or Democrats reps

Rummy and General Casey - making their first announcements to do what Nixon and declare defeery (victory in defeat) and muse publicly about cutting and running from Iraq (before the 2006 elections of course)

and so many other stories of true relevance to Americans.....but Greta and O'Reilly and Scarborough made sure they were there to report on every drop drained from the pond and the hair DNA and whatnot.....yep thats NEWS...NOT!
