Havelock WUSM/WKVO

1968 or 1969 WUSM Havelock was a dump bought by Pete Wenck (think he's in Morehead City) and Bruce Kent. WKVO stood for Wenck, Kent, and the 1st names of their wives and went a/c (then top 40). The young hungry guys worked hard to scratch out a living and added the fm shortly. Use to operate at the transmitter site in a trailer. Bruce I hear went to West Virgina and Pete continued. Understand he worked in Wilmington and now owns a internet web company in Wilmington. Both were true gentleman and close friends of mine. I was doing country at WHIT, New Bern. WHIT is another story. It was a poor mess from the start in the 1940s. Will do a WHIT post as well as WRNB and early WSFL.

Remember the old automation system? Had Paper tape you had to toggle the boot info in before the tape would move. Old Ferrite core memory with Instacarts.

That was the day. So long ago now. I recall buying old carts for a cheap owner that were the entire WABC music library. Needless to say they were kept.
