having trouble with reception this morning, also identity (of someone else)?

This morning between 7:30 and 8:00 Pacific, I was listening (or attempting to listen) to KPRO (1570, from Riverside, CA), from approx 32°45'40"N, 116°56'50". (those coordinates aren't quite exact btw). I was having significant problems with powerline noise, and severe signal fading. When the signal got to where it was listenable (maybe 15-20% of the time), it was about 10-15dB (maybe 20dB tops) SNR I'd guess at best.
I was thinking about building a loop antenna for mediumwave reception. It'd most likely be a 6-foot diameter loop antenna (for hopefully a good balance between good performance and being able to use it indoors). Would this help me cut down the powerline noise and other static, which was about 30dB higher than I would have liked it to be, even though I was about 150 feet from the powerlines?

edit: forgot about 2nd item in title until now...

several nights ago I was near Madison Ave & 2nd Street in El Cajon, CA. It was just around sunset, and I was channel surfing on a 2002 Honda Accord car radio. On 1610, I heard a faint adult standards signal. A quick check of 1320 revealed the same song playing on KCTC. I don't know of anything that might have been causing 1320 (the only other receivable signal I know of in the area that carries the Music of Your Life format) to have an image on 1610, and 1320 wasn't all that strong either. Any idea what that station on 1610 might have been?
