Well, since noone's posting here, I guess it's up to me to start the discussions. Okay then. Here's some Hawaii format flip news to get us started.
Honolulu: Hotchman Hawaii has dumped the Japanese programming airing on weekdays on KORL-FM (101.1), replacing it with Smooth Jazz. Previously, KORL-FM had been running Japanese for 12 hours, and the smooth Jazz had been running in the evening. This move now gives Honolulu a fulltime terestrial Smooth Jazz outlet. Korl (1180) is still running brokered programming, including 12 hours of Japanese programming.
My opinion: Well, it's a good move. Hawaii gains a new fulltime format, and loses nothing, since the Japanese programming still runs on AM.
Maui: In other moves from Hotchman Hawaii, it has launched KHKR (97.3) on Maui as Classic Rock formatted "K-Rock." The station is brand new, and had just signed on the air, according to Erika Engle of the Star Bulletin.
My opinion: Another Classic Rocker. Great! This is just what Hawaii needs!... Not. Classic Rock is an anoying format. Besides, there are soooo many rock stations in Hawaii now that I think something's gonna give here eventually.
Your thoughts on the new formats?
