Hawaii's Smooth Jazz KORL 101.5 FM

Thought I'd share this: Hawaii's Smooth Jazz KORL 101.5 FM (formerly on 101.1 FM) has started streaming as of recently. I've been listening lately and this is a pretty unique playlist that they have, some great deep cuts that are non-BA material. Here is their streaming link: http://tunein.com/radio/KORL-HD2-1011-s173181/

Here is their coverage map: http://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=K268BE&service=FX&status=L&hours=U

This is obviously a locally programmed playlist, I haven't heard any live personalities yet but I did hear Roy Dackerman do a few local commercials. They just have a few liners from the BA SJ network voice "Hawaii's Smooth Jazz KORL 101.5." According to this site: http://www.honolulujazzscene.com/index.php - they have a morning show with on air personality Johnny Miro.

Thanks for the link. KORL is a good listen. I'm actually a person who LIKES the BA Smooth Jazz format, listening to KMYT or WLOQ's audio streaming. But KORL, with its locally generated playlist, sounds good for a change of pace, as is WSBZ Mirimar Beach Florida. I guess tropical resorts lend themselves to this music.

I was wondering why the Tuned In page says 101.1 and the web player says 101.5. You say the station moved its frequency. I wonder why? If you're on an island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, who are you moving your dial postion for?

The Tuned In page also says this is KORL-HD2. But I think Honolulu is one of the Top 100 cities these days that actually supports an FM station doing the Smooth Jazz format on its regular broadcast, not on an HD signal after changing formats.

The main channel is Hot AC, while HD-2 is Smooth Jazz. HD-3 and HD-4 are K-Pop and J-Pop formats.

The main channel was Smooth Jazz until Fall of 2011, but billing was down to below $12 thousand a month and they were forced to change.

101.5 is the frequency of the analog translator that is fed by KORL-HD2. The HD3/HD4 channels also feed analog translators.

KORL 101.5 is now using the moniker "Smooth FM Hawaiian Style." It is Smooth AC (more vocals than instrumentals) mixed with Hawaiian music.
