HAZELHURST CHANGES AND NEW RADIO STATION

First, lets talk about 93.5 WVOH. Originally, it was 25k watts out of Hazelhurst but is moving south towards Nicholls, Georgia and increasing to 50,000 watts. Station was and still is classic hits but has updated their image and is now called Eagle 93.5. Even though they have increased their power, the more southern location of their tower has reduced the signal coverage to the north so areas that once got this station (Mt. Vernon, Vidalia, Lyons) now can barely pick the station up. Personally, I think this is a bad move considering 93.5 was rated number one in Toombs County for the first time in its long history. WVOH facebook page has some upset listeners from northern counties that can no longer pick the station up.

Since the station is moving further south and is trying to sound more professional, Hazelhurst has decided to add another country station, WHJD 105.9. This will be country with local small town programing (Obitz, Religion, etc).

Can't find any information on 105.9.

It looks like the new FM is a translator that will move to Hazlehurst from Mcrae. It will rebroadcast the AM station @ 920 WHJD with 250 watts.

When did WOVH move? Don't they have to spend a few weeks "testing" at 50% power from their new site and facilities (assuming they got all new equipment and aren't still waiting for a new 50kw transmitter to be delivered) before they can turn up the transmitter to 11 and start rockin' like a border blaster?

Only if they are a directional, which they are not. They can crank it up under program test authority after filing for the license to cover.

Under previous ownership WVOH upgraded to 50 kw. back in the early 90s, then downgraded to 25 kw. for another station licensed to Jeffersonville to upgrade to 100 kw. The previous owner got paid well for the downgrade, and later sold the station for more than he was originally asking for when it was 50 kw. Pretty smart business move. They already had the antenna, and transmitter to make 50, so all they had to do was move it to the new tower in Nichols. Under the new rules they wouldn't be able to change the city of license, and move it to Nichols. This was one of the last of these applications to be accepted and approved.
