HBO abandons plan to do a Doc on Fox News

Maybe there's just not as much interest in the topic, especially given the falloff in viewership on both Fox News and CNN. Everyone pretty much knows the Fox News story already, not much surprise or drama there, and not much to build a theatrical docudrama around.

Conceivably they could do a more sweeping docudrama about Rupert Murdoch and his entire media empire--it could be "Citizen Murdoch"--but it would need someone with the skill and imagination of an Orson Welles to do it right, otherwise it could end up run of the mill.

Other factors are that HBO has the TV series "The Newsroom" in its place and Rupert Murdoch has been Exposed for his UK Tabloid operations on PBS Frontline, and other Independent Docs that were out on this topic. Also You have Media Critics and Jon Stewart exposing Murdoch's US Propaganda operations as propaganda.

Please remember that Fox News is Roger Ailes baby all the way - Ailes is an old Republican operative, and the man responsible for the success of Fox News. Murdoch is actually on record saying he's (personally) not as conservative as people would think him to be. But Ailes has made him a lot of money. As far as I know, Murdoch's role has been basically to get out of Ailes way and let him run Fox News as he sees fit.

A straight-up documentary on Roger Ailes would be interesting. He's had a loooooong career, and Fox News is only a SMALL part of it.
My hunch is that HBO will do this project, but not with people who just want to bash Fox News. (like the two MSNBC anchors who were apparently writing the thing)

I doubt HBO can do this Doc on Ailes. If you want to do a Doc on Roger Ailes it has to be an Independent film and it has to Air on The Documentary Channel, Free Speech TV, and Link TV or Direct to Youtube.

Current TV would be best equipped to do something like this. They have the penetration which FSTV simply doesn't have

A radio documentary would be even better. If it were a radio documentary, Pacifica Radio would be PERFECT for something like this

Cheers & 73 :D
