HBO To Televise Obama Inauguration Event

And local news/prime access is still available to the affiliates, so you won't miss Entertainment Tonight.

Just saw the local ABC affiliate's plans for next Tuesday's Inauguration coverage.

There's a nice little hole there between 7-8 PM with no coverage listed, so I presume Pat, Vanna and Alex will still be in their usual spots...

Oh, I haven't put it up yet, but the local Time Warner system will not only open up HBO for this event, they'll also simulcast it down into the analog local programming channels. (You need digital cable to get HBO on TWC, at least locally.)

In the 1990's, the cable provider I had did the same thing, since HBO and Showtime were on traps (channel was unscrambled, and traps were installed on non-subsciber lines). Free previews were aired over the leased access/bulletin board channel.

I don't know what Comcast (here in Atlanta or else where) will do. HBO is only available digitally in most places with digital cable now. Most providers might just open up the 7 or so channels digitally with no analog simulcast, while a few might interrupt the local leased access channel for a simulcast.

Nonetheless...a good majority of people still will not have access to this event on Sunday.

I haven't really paid attention, since I have digital cable, but I don't recall TWC putting the garden variety HBO/etc. "Free Preview Weekends" into analog simulcasts.

This weekend's event seems different, and they're actively putting up that simulcast. I doubt the rest of the "Free Preview Weekend" will be on NEON... (our local programming channel 23)

Interesting. Charlie Gibson is supposed to have a 90 minute edition on Tuesday. I think it might be optional for affiliates though.

Mediacom in Santa Rosa county Florida sent out a message yesterday that they would be carrying an inaugural event on their community access channel, Sunday, at 1:30 PM central with several replays later on Sunday. They didn't mention HBO. Is this likely to be a free version of what HBO is going to broadcast?

Well, I can't find any official confirmation, but yes, Mediacom does appear to be one of the cable companies rebroadcasting this on local channels.

The Iowa system isn't doing it live, for some reason, on the access channel...but that might just be a local thing. The event is indeed at 2:30 PM ET.
