HBO's The NewsRoom Is based on a 1990's CBC Series in the same name

No, it isn't. They're two shows with different plotlines (though they both take place in a fictional newsroom) and different characters. Though they have the same title, the two shoes aren't related to each other.

I'm not sure how familiar you are with Aaron Sorkin, but the only person he plagiarizes is himself.
