HD-2 and Dance Formats

Automated. They are not going to hire jocks to do Dance until a sizeable audience is reach which could be years and years.

I wouldn't jump on the bandwagon just yet. Why does anyone care about HD Dance formats when you can get Sirius and XM with Dance channels NOW???? The HD channels will never have the signal reach as Satellite.

For the next 5 years, XM or Sirius are the way to go. Unless, of course, those services screw things up. If you go to Sirius Backstage there is a lot of angst over the loss of Remix (a superior Dance station).

I do agree that the HD-2 stations will be automated. Maybe an announce of a song if you are lucky but that's it. HD-2 stations will most likely rely more on the Internet if people want to find out any info.

And you are right about a "bandwagon" since technically there isn't really one YET. And sure, you can get Sirius and XM right now. Yet there is still something to the word...FREE that makes the HD-2 side appealing. But as long as they program differently and not be "status quo" as it is on standard terrestrial, that's the only way HD-2 will make it. Either or you'll still have to buy a radio/unit.

I aggree with Tony. If they actually keep the dance stations and uses the other stations to go give the local listeners what they want wether its oldies, country, jazz, rock etc then i think HD Radio will survive and in the long run wipe out satellite radio. The Key word here is free for the HD Radio customer.

I tend to agree with Ryan.
I think many of you are also forgetting that the days internet streaming stations available to hear in your car might be coming real soon. Unlike Sirius and XM which offer a few Dance channels for a monthly fee, the internet is free, and the number of Dance stations is in the hundreds, if not thoudands.

If they were going to spend the money, don't you think they would put the jock on their money making CHR first?
______________

CHRles:

Ahhh, contraire, you still have to pay an unlimited usage fee to Verizon or T-Mobile to be able to stream the stations in your car. Thus, the question really is, are you willing to spend 40-80 bucks a month to do that. I know I won't be when I already have satellite and may have the possibility of listening to dance on HD-2 in my market.
______________

It will be a long time before the masses pay for that and the costs come down. Only the Tech Radio Geeks who can afford it. Also I would think another subscription fee for whatever radio services you want listen to (IE...DI.FM etc..) . They got to make their money too and bandwith isn't cheap.

Yeah, but either or, you are still going to pay MEGA money for those technologies.

I wouldn't even DARE touch a cellular to hear these stations...especially considering the fact that the companies would VERY likely charge air time for this. If you have one of those plans such as 800 minutes or so, those airtime charges will add up and you'd be entering overage territory.

If you just can't wait...then pick up a satellite radio unit and pay that. Or just be patient and wait it out for HD-2. THAT will be the saving grace for dance music in this country just as long as radio companies are wise to this...

Never thought I'd say this.....HIRE ME SOMEONE! :)
