HD-2 Not Important

Is HD-2 THAT unimportant and dead that CC doesn't pay any attention to their HD-2 streams? In Dayton, they're pretty much the only company that has them. I spoke to the PD of one of the stations and they admitted that they're just letting it run, nobody listens to it.

104.7 WTUE: 980 WONE on HD-2... seems to make sense

103-9 The X: A complete mess. Started off as The Alternative Project when HD first launched. Makes sense. Then when they flipped to alternative, it became Gen X but still continued to run the ALT Project imaging. I let one of the guys there know and they said they would look into it. Never did. Then I tuned in months later to check in on it and it was playing some random alternative format. Unfamiliar songs. Still, the same imaging. Then days later, I tuned in and it seemed to have a "rhythmic-leaning" Gen X format similar to Voodoo 104 in New Orleans. I personally enjoy it but STILL running ALT Project imaging. Often, it will run 10+ sweepers back to back.

Mix 107.7: 80s... used to be Contemp. Christian.

94.5 Lite FM: It is the Premium Choice AC feed. A more current version of what they have on HD1.

Channel 999: It is smooth jazz. When 945 and 999 did the switch, they canned what was on 945's HD2 which was Club Phusion, a dance format. They threw on AC and kept smooth jazz on 999's HD-2. I think they should can the AC format on 94.5's HD2 and put smooth jazz on there and put a Rhythmic CHR format on 999, that's what they had when HD Radio first came to the city.

Big 1065: Don't believe they broadcast in HD so nothing.

Come on Clear Channel, HD Radio may be dying and have little to no listeners, I bet I'm the only one listening to 103.9's HD2 but is it THAT BAD to leave it sounding like a huge mess? Hopefully someone from CC can respond to this.

Mix 107.7 has MORE 80s on their HD2 subchannel? Good Lord! I also saw that Mix 107.7 is once again going back to the "Time Warp Weekend" this weekend and running the 80s into the ground some more. Mix has to be THE lamest Hot AC in the entire country. Too bad someone wouldn't put an Adult CHR on the air to come between Mix and Channel and at least make Mix move their format away from the 80s. I thought Click would do the trick, but with that terrible signal and their rudderless direction they never had a chance. Then again, there's always Q102 that comes in crystal clear throughout most of the Dayton metro...and it's live and local! Dayton radio as a whole is the worst I've ever heard it. Horrible.

Did anyone here ever get a Sony XDR-S!0? Those things are so bad that you don't dare disconnect them. I finally opted for an Insignia armband radio just so I could keep up with what's
left on HD-2 or 3.

Haven't tried the xdr-h10, but I have two Sony XDR-F1HD tuners and they are the best tuners I have ever owned. Far more sensitive and selective than a Carver TX11a. I paid $50 after rebate for them new, and they are selling for over $200 used on Ebay. I also have a Yamaha receiver with HD Radio that sounds great, but has poor sensitivity.

I have one of those XDR-F1HD tuners and agree with your assessment. I hardly use it for the HD function, more so for DX and reception of the low power stations because of the analog sensitivity.

The Sony that I'm talking about had a built-in speaker and and an ipod dock. Often it would not advance past the welcome screen and remain silent. If you could eventually get sound out of it, you had to leave it plugged in to keep it from "resetting". It was sensitive like a tuner, but not worth the extra hassle.

I have a Sony XDRS10... great reception and sensitivity but it is one of those that were poorly built. I ended up leaving it on my windowsill by accident one day and it rained. Ruined the LCD.

I listen to 99.9 HD2 Smooth Jazz all the time. It's actually been playing all day on my whole house sound here in Cincinnati

Tony Tilford programmed the WTUE deep cuts feed which was awesome. CC's oldies channel was probably the worst-programmed oldies channel ever. Sorry, but stale programming that's available over-the-air is not gonna generate listeners, ratings or revenue. Especially true when you need to buy ANOTHER radio to try to hear an inferior signal. Clear Channel is rolling with I-Heart radio and other internet radio is also gaining in popularity. I've listened to a lot of internet radio for nearly a decade. RIP HD-radio. Contributions for a headstone may be sent to "The East Bank of the Ohio".

I was thinking of getting an HD radio for that very purpose, the Smooth Jazz on 99.9 HD2. Do you know if it's all network fed in from Broadcast Architecture's Smooth Jazz network or are there any local flares on there? I'm surprised that the HD signal travels to Cincy, I thought they were very sensitive.

I can pick up Rewind's HD-2 "The Sound"

I've been listening to WLVQ again, but this time on the the armband radio through Bose bookshelf speakers! Of coarse, I prefer to listen to The Ride on my Squeezebox for about 4 hours on Saturday night. ;D
