HD 2 Radio Now with Commercials

I noticed today listening to WKTU 103.5 HD 2 Country they are now airing commercials during their breaks.
I heard Duane Reade so far. Last week during WCBS 101. 1 HD 2 Oldies during their Special Class Reunion countdown shows there were many commercials including car dealers, etc. This could be a sign that better things are on the way for HD radio.

I take it that they aren't "Alliance" members? The agreement was to be non-commercial for two years. Or so I thought.

I'll bet the spots are just give-aways, just like free overnight spots.

I believe they are part of the "Alliance" group. The reason the commercials could now be airing is that agreement of no commercials was probably a temporary agreement. The commercial spots are airing midday today and probably overnight too.

Many stations such as CBS FM are airing spots but that's because the commercials which do air are paid for to play on their playing on their .com stream and not their HD 2 stream. I haven't even heard HD 2 mentioned on CBS FM. They do ID as WCBS FM.com all the time. Many of the other HD 2's are also streamed on line and the stations are selling those spots at a much reduced rate to advertisers. WCBS AM, while the Yankee flagship station no longer discontinues all news coverage while a game is playing. They continue broadcasting news live on the internet and playing spots which have been purchased at a lower rate. This gives many smaller businesses the chance to get in the game and get their word out to the internet audience and I know stations such as WFAN now get phone calls from all over the country due to all their new internet audience. As I've written previously, as much as I'm for HD and any advancement in technology my belief is that within the next 10 years as Wi-Fi expands you'll see that it will become THE method people use to receive broadcasts, as opposed to either terrestrial radio or the sats.

I been in touch with Jeff Mazzei PD at WCBS FM.com/ HD 2 Oldies. Jeff has indicated that the plan is to gradually increase local content on WCBS HD 2, the reason you hear WCBS-FM.com not HD 2 for commercial breaks is because the HD commercial haven't been launched yet. I suspect as more people buy HD radios we will hear less mention of WCBS.com and more WCBS HD 2. I been studying the WIFI Internet radio, seems very impressive though I haven't been able to find any reviews for this radio yet.

WJMK HD-2 Chicago also runs commercials. Not as many as when the format was on analog, but enough to make it sound like a commercial station.
They also have DJs from 10AM-12AM

Do you mean something like they promised not to air commercials for two years, but that promise would only be good for a few months?

I guess they fired all the talent to give the money saved to HD Radio/iBiquity. Smart move? ::)
