HD-2's on Fm Translators?

heres is a good question for a few... I was curious the translators in 103.1 in Greenwich and stamford that are currently not in use. could you put an HD-2 on a translator? I figure I ask because It seems to be happening in places like Keene Nh.
Do HD-2's have less legal ranges for their COL?

thoughts

Yes. In fact there are a few translators in the northern New York Metro area translating WPLJ-HD2's True Oldies.

Legally, would all the HD streams have to be the same as the parent station?
Say the FM owned an AM that covered their main area fine but was weak by one of the translators.
What if they wanted to cover high school games with other translator HD2's.

An FM translator can relay the AM directly, IF it has Special Temporary Authority to do so...or it can relay an HD multicast channel that happens to be carrying the same programming as the AM. In the latter case, it would be legal to break off the HD2/HD3/whatever, and the translator that's carrying its programming, to carry a different game from the AM.

Too bad one of those translators didn't carry the WPLJ-HD 3 signal. We could listen to Rewound on the air this weekend.
