Surprised not much mention has been made, but CBS-FM's oldies format is being broadcast again on 101.1's HD-2 signal...I hear there are other FMs in NYC broadcasting formats on their secondary HD signals..Does anyone know who, and what formats??

This is all well and good but like the tree falling in the forest, let's see some affordable radios.

Have CBS FM the same signal as on the internet on HD2, same program?

Yes

As it stands now the only HD radio available is from Boston Acoustic and costs $500. Radiosophy has a model to be available in about a month for about $269. Whenever there is a new technology introduced, the prices are very high. They will come down, the question is when.

Huh, thats funny. I have a Kenwood in one car and a Panasonic in the other and they work just fine.

if thats the case what have you been noticing/picking up for subchannels

I am presently in the Chicago area where there are quite a few HD2 channels. All are commercial free and sound great! Surprisingly great (I expected them to sound very compressed). Then in a few weeks I am off to Detroit in a few weeks to check out their boat load of HD stations, then hopefully a swing through NYC.

It appears that almost all of the HD2 channels nationwide will be running commerical free to "promote" HD Radio. More radios are on the way from China, and we should begin to see a drop in prices in the not so distant future.

I am hearing stations promoting the HD Radio broadcasts now.
 
The problem, as I see it is that, just like with AM Stereos, those HD receivers are not so easy to find.

If all or half of the receivers sold or made were HD ready, than I think it would get more attention. But since they are not, only us radio-geeks will notice, and less will talk about it. And, that's a shame!

All of these have HD-2 channels, but sometimes they have no programming on them... they are just broadcasting silence.

WNYC 93.9
WHTZ 100.3
WNEW 102.7
WAXQ 104.3

The subchannels of 104.3 and 100.3 all carry the same type of programming as the main channel---probably just for testing, while 102.7's broadcasts dead air.


CBS-FM HD2 is the only full-time HD2 channel with defined programming.

Basically any radio that is satellite ready is HD Radio ready. So there are a bunch of them out there. Both the Sat box and the HD Radio box use the same plug and wiring. There shold be no problems.

Something tells me it's not so simple. Are you saying that if I buy an XM radio but not subscribe for the service, it will just pick HD FMs? Or, is there an attachement.

And by the way, you've kind of proved my point, since Satellite radios usually cost $100 or more (at least, the ones I've seen).
 
Its not so simple. As far as Aftermarkets go, Kenwood sells a HD-Radio add on receiver that goes onto an HD-Ready head unit. Most head units produced by Kenwood in the last 3 years are HD Ready, but the HD tuner itself costs $300.

xm radio receiver is cheap..

you can get an xm radio for under 50.00! and its ready to go in the car..
