HD-AM question

Durring sports broadcasts can AM HD send out the score display and display other scores around?

They sure could! There is a stream of data called "PAD" - short for Program Associated Data (IIRC) which is generally used like RDS for song and station information. You could absolutely send sports scores on that data stream and have it show up on HD Radios.

Another interesting thing they can do is send the audio in analog (without the delay) and send the data. That way you can hear the game in real time and still get the info. HD stations will generally turn off the analog delay during sports games. If they leave the HD on, you can choose to listen to analog if you wish.

I thought about that yesterday when listening to the Cowboys & the Texans games, that would be neat to see other scores around also. ;D

During sports events that I choose to listen to AND watch on TV, I need to be able to switch to an undelayed signal, or during sports broadcasts, the HD needs to be real time and not delayed.

I can switch to ananlog only on my JVC car deck, but the Radio Shack Accurian does not allow this, but it's needed for the example I gave above....

Also, I need to be able to adjust the EQ individually on the Accurian. Too many stations sending HD have their bass boosted so high that I can't bring it down enough to turn up the radio to loud, without bass distortion. [Sometimes.... I like it LOUD.]

Not going to happen... in fact. It's only going to get worse. Last year there were some play-by-play sports broadcasts at home fields on local stations which turned OFF their HD signal so as to be able to sync up "live" to the event.

But the idiotic and continuing fallout from Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction has finally gotten completely in the way and broadcast companies feel threatened by the amounts of potential "obscenity" fines. In the future, you will have a profanity delay throughout the duration of a play-by-play sports broadcast so then, why NOT offer the broadcast in HD delay if you're going to have profanity delay anyway? That's about, oh, say 15-20 seconds worth of delay? Isn't that wonderful? Forget about watching it on TV and turning down its volume so you can listen to it on the radio...

This won't matter anymore with the addition of profanity delay to your favorite play-by-play sports broadcasts.

Isn't life wonderfully complicated?

And the broadcast companies are wondering why radio isn't as popular as it used to be. The inmates are clearly in control of the asylum.
