HD at 1236 stations

The Ibiquity web site as not be updated for a few weeks. Still list 1236 stations on -air.

Hmmmmm. 1176 less than 3 months ago. 1236 Now.

I believe the concensus of this group would be that "They've only added 60 new stations in 3 months... WHAT A FAILURE."

Assuming everyone paid the new sign up cost, that's $600,000.00. Annualized, that's $2.4 Million not counting receiver licensing.

HUMOR ALERT!!!

Check out the spin on this one from the Anti group.

Easy, with one hand tied behind my back.

Only 150,000 HD radios have been sold in three years!

With all the returns, the number is probably half that - this is confirmed by the lack of traffic to the consumer go-to site for HD Radio:

Funny, no? The subject about number of stations is swept away by the panic stricken "Aginners". The wild accusations that Half the radio's have been returned. As if manufacturers that had radios returned would not be getting credit on the license fees? And Ibiquity would not know.

The moronic assertions that hdradio.com is relevant to hd radio anything. And the diversion away from the topic of how there are 60 more HD radio stations than there were last quarter at this time.

With HD radio such a failure, it's hard to believe that broadcasters continue to sign up and waste their money.

Ponderous.

Not Really! Ibiquity with their greed has force most stations to go the IBOC way or face extinction... Here's the fees Ibiquity is imposing on broadcasters and the timeframe or face the consequences of paying more to get the interference into the air!

Licensing Deadline:

June 30, 2007 Ibiquity Fee: $10,000.00 Deadline for Conversion: Dec. 31, 2007
June 30, 2008 Ibiquity Fee: $15,000.00 Deadline for Conversion: Dec. 31, 2008
After June 30, 2008 Ibiquity Fee: $25,000.00 Deadline: None

http://www.ibiquity.com/i/Licensing_Fact_Sheet2007.pdf

With that scare tactic, no wonder the broadcasters are signing up before they get left behind paying more to implement... WHAT A SCAM!

"HD Radio Marketing Tool Kit"

http://www.hdradioalliance.com/marketing_tool_kit.php

What is that we see, on the front of every HD Radio consumer brochure - "HDRadio.com". And yes, broadcasters are wasting their money by signing up for HD/IBOC because no one is listening, and the HD Radio effort has been almost a complete failure in generating consumer interest:

http://www.statsaholic.com/hdradio.com

As we can see by iBiquity's sign-up schedule, if HD/IBOC had such promise in broadcasters' minds, such a schedule wouldn't have to exist - kind of like having rebates for HD radios.

OK I guess I'm confused.

Ibiquity with their greed has force most stations to go the IBOC way or face extinction...

Hard to envision extinction for not adopting an OPTIONAL system, but if you say so.

With that scare tactic, no wonder the broadcasters are signing up before they get left behind paying more to implement...

Interesting take how they could get left behind if they don't sign up. But, maybe....

Then the other take that...

...broadcasters are wasting their money by signing up for HD/IBOC because no one is listening, and the HD Radio effort has been almost a complete failure in generating consumer interest:

You know I think I ought to just step aside and let you two experts decide if it's extinction or indifference. Clearly at least one of you is completely off the mark.

I'd bet a cherished part of my anatomy that they're actually adding stations even faster. As discussed elsewhere, Ibiquity does a horrid job of updating their website!

Big deal - these are mostly HD Radio Alliance stations, so in affect, they are paying themselves to broadcast in HD/IBOC.
