Azteca has no choice, having a full-power license either they go digital on Feb. 18 of next year or they go off the air. (digital, not necessarily high definition)

The other stations may get another year or two. None of them have filed for DTV facilities yet. (well, I don't know what station Tu Vision is, what channel are they on?)

I think you have the Azteca and TuVision stations mixed up. TuVision is Pappas' full-service KAZH 57 and is operating reduced-power per STA on channel 41. They're running 125 kW, which covers 80% of the full-power signal. KAZH was the Azteca station until Pappas and Azteca divorced.

Azteca is now on Uva Ves Mas' KUVM-CA 34. They have a CP to build DTV facilities on ch. 40, but their signal is only predicted to cover central Houston and the western suburbs.

If you need to know anything, don't ask TV Guide - they can't help. Try TitanTV or Zap2It instead.

KTBU 55 Conroe has already licensed their full 1 MW facilities on ch 42 (it will still map to 55.1 on a digital TV).

According to their DTV Transition Report filing with the FCC last month, KZJL 61 Houston is broadcasting in DTV on ch 44 (mapping to 61.1), also at the full 1 MW. Their full operations have not yet been licensed.

KLTJ 22 Galveston has certified that they're operating their final DTV facilities on ch 23 at 246.6 kW (even if the FCC reports it as 2 kW). They don't have a license yet for their full DTV operations.

KVQT 21 Houston is the only LPTV station of these four, and has announced no plans for DTV. DTV tuners, however, do pick up analog stations.

But what about channel 55, ch 61 are they going digital or are they gone? Ummm also there is channel 22 Daystar and Vision Celestial 21. I found this page online but it dosent mention alot of stations!!! http://www.tvguide.com/listings/default.aspx
Sir, buy a DTV tuner and then ask the questions. You would really solve your own questions by doing this.

Anyways, while sticking out the Rabbit ear antennas, is anyone else annoyed by KETH 5 station stream? Wow, it takes me a log time to just seek from KTXH to KTRK

FCC.gov can show you who is licensed for DTV in Houston or Texas.......I would not ask any of the other sources as they are usually behind....
As for DTV tuners picking up analog, NO that is not correct....SOME (most) will passthru analog...but some DONOT...if it doesnt pass thru analog, you must bypass the DTV tuner somehow to watch an analog LPTV signal. ALL highpower (full service) stations will either be digital or off the air as of 2/19/09......and on their final digital channel (8, 11 and 13 are moving back to their legacy channels....2 will remain on their UHF channel...PAX will keep 5 as their DTV channel). LowPower and Class A TV stations can remain analog for now....no date has been set to sunset their analog operation...but it will be coming soon enough...NOW if we can keep Google from screwing things up with their "White Space broadband" idea...just what we really DONT need!

Stop right there. HDTV and DTV are two different things. Furthermore, the stations you mention are (I think) all LPTV stations, meaning they are unaffected by the DTV switchover date in 2009. The digital switchover that everyone is talking about in February of 2009 relates to full-power TV stations transitioning from analog broadcasting to digital broadcasting. THERE IS NO MANDATE TO SWITCH TO HDTV AT ALL.

Let's simplify this.

1. All of the stations you mention will eventually switch from analog broadcasting to digital (DTV)
2. If they are currently on cable, most of their viewers won't notice a thing when they do.
3. It's unlikely that any of them will broadcast anything in HDTV for a long time.

The FCC does not, however, tell you the affiliation of a station. That's why I was recommending TitanTV or Zap2It.

That's news to me. Do you have brands and models? If those are still being sold, I think a lot of folks here who haven't taken the DTV plunge yet would be interested in knowing what to avoid. Myself, I have 2 DTVs of different brands, plus a DTV stick for my laptop, and all pass analog stations through.

All TVs with integrated tuners I've seen will receive analog, but most of the external DTV set-top boxes won't. Nor will they pass analog through to the attached receiver when the STB is turned off. This includes the Insignia (Best Buy) box I've got in the other room. I'm told the Zenith available at other retailers is the same box with a different logo.

This has been an issue for LPTV interests, who've sued to stop the coupon program until STBs can be *required* to pass-through analog. (personally, I think their time & money would be much better spent converting their LPTVs to digital...)

Integrated tuners is what I had in mind - I guess I should have been more clear.

KPXB will not be staying on 5 after transition. The yes-we-really-mean-it-this-time final M&O had KPXB on 32.

Geesh, 2-6 will be empty along the TX Gulf Coast??? I wonder how long before someone applies for a LP Analog (or digital) on one of them?? And I would bet it will be religious based....(just a guess :)

What are smart antennas and where would I buy one?

*RCA Converter has an option for one but have never heard of these type of antenna.

I got mine from Circuit City. Regular "bunny-ears" are useless this far away from Houston. With the smart antenna I can now recieve 2, 2.2, 2.3, 3, 8, 8.2, 8.3,11,13,.2 & .3, 14 and it's 4 subchannels, 20, 26, 39, 45, 47, 55, 57, 61, and 67. Damned if I know what it takes to get 49 on the channel scan. Perhaps an intervention from God.

Where are you located at???

You will have a hard time getting Ion. They have a very tight NE-SW axis on their digital signal pattern. Hopefully this will improve next year when they change channels.

I wonder if KPXB will simply take over the current KTRK digital xmtr on 32? (KTRK will move its digital to 13 when the changeover happens.)
