HD in NYC wheres the rock? and no Hd am?

No you're wrong about that. The unions are not being blamed because they want to get talent union wages for internet streams which is good for talent. What it does though is assure that management will not ever staff internet streams with talent if they have to pay essentially the same aftra wage for a jock on an internet stream where they're making no money from it. If they then sell spots aggressively and build the internet stream up to the level of being a full on functioning, revenue producing station that just happens to be delivered via the internet, then they have just created another competitor for their Fm signal, no one is THAT stupid :D.

The same applies to HD . IF your terrestrial Fm stick is struggling ( and even those that are making the most money in town are struggling by comparison to what they used to make say even ten years ago) why would you then create essentially another competitor for your struggling (revenue wise) flagship?. HD was/is broadcasters knee jerk reaction to their feared perceived competition from Sat radio which has yet to prove itself to be anything more than a curiosity and a luxury for a few. The theory has been advanced by guys like Jim Cramer that if the Sirius and Xm merger does not go through that one of the two companies will indeed fold, if that happens then Sat radio becomes even less of a threat than it already is and we've already established that it's at best a paper tiger for now.

I wasn't trying to blame the union I see how you got that idea from my post so im sorry. What I am saying is that it's a strange circle. The union wants fair wage for talent, if you do that then you're paying for real talent not just interns that want a break, and creating a real station, a real station is a real competitor. Ergo it will not happen. Apply the same logic to HD and there you have your answer as to why HD is B right now and you find yourself asking "where's the rock"?.

What's so wrong with this? Classic rock, nice mix. Long sets. DJ's that don't overpower but keep you listening. Didn't we have that once in NY? But now if it isn't screaming at you the powers to be think it can't make enough money. Click the "Listen" box. I remember growing up to this on stations like PLJ before style become more important than substance. Thank God we have internet! Why is it always about trying to make double digits in a world where they don't exist anymore?

Well put, TowerBuzz. Thank you for the clarification. :)

No problem Cal. I think it is actually a shame because the promise of HD was a great sounding idea.

You might aswell rename this thread "where have all the AM hd's gone..

As of today there are TWO AM IBOC signals on-air, WFAN and WOR.

I assume that most of the other signals that are off will be back, they include:

WPAT
WCBS-am
WABC
WNYC-am
WZRC

I have never been able to get reliable digital lock on WCBS-am here in MAnhattan's upper east side. Their signal is lower in this area than WNYC but slightly higher than WPAT -both of which are fine in analog.

This evening WNYC'-fm's hd-3 was off, typical of the haphazard way broadcasters are treating their iboc signal.
