HD News in Hartford/New Haven

Anyone have any insight as to when news in HD might come to the Connecticut local channels? I think all the major markets (NY, Philly, Boston) have this now. Ch 3 new has great picture quality on their HD channel, but I'm not aware as to whether it's actually broadcast in HD. 8 and 3 have lousy picture quality when their local news is on.
 
At this rate it looks like Fox will be the first to go HD, this summer when they cozy up even closer with the Courant. Next to go should be NBC30 when they move into their new digs. As for the other two stations, who knows.

In NYC all the networks have local news in HD except WWOR and WNYW.
 
In Chicago, pretty much every broadcast channel that has news offers it in HD. I believe that CBS-owned WBBM was the last, but I could be wrong. In Philly, now that NBC 10 is carrying news in HD, each of the "Big 3" stations have it - leaving Fox 29 as the odd man out.

I am surprised that not one station in CT is offering news in HD; most of the moderate to large markets have at least 1 station offering it. You'd better believe that WFSB would have jumped on a new technology like this back in the Post-Newsweek days. At one time, that station had the best of everything. Sad to see how it's fallen (although that's another topic).

WFSB has fallen, but is still miles ahead of 8 and 30. I'm suprised 3 didn't go HD when they moved to Rocky Hill 2 years ago (?). I would agree that perhaps 30 will be the next channel as they move to a new studio soon. 8 is so far behind in everything, it's not even funny.
 
Going by it on I-84/US 6 in West Hartford near the Farmington town line, the nearly complete new building is sitting directly behind the existing one. Gonna make for quite the site when that comes down. :eek:
 
Yes, you would think that WVIT would premiere news in HD with the coming of the new studio. That's how it worked at WBBM Chicago and one of the Philly stations (I can't recall which one). It's truly surprising that WFSB didn't do this when they moved into their new studios 2 years ago. We were already well into the HD age at that point.

I know that all of the Big 3 stations in Boston do news in HD now - but I don't recall if Fox 25 does yet. No surprise that WCVB was the first to do it in all of New England. The Fox stations seems to be laggards about it when compared with others.

I believe you're thinking of KYW in Philadelphia.
 
WNYW in New York City does local news in HD but I can not tell if sister station WWOR does the same.

That's an extremely safe bet, as it will take Lin Broadcasting (WTNH) and Tribune (WTIC-TV) forever to do it.

If I had to guess, I'd have to guess that WVIT will be first; particularly considering that Meredith could have done it when they moved into their new studios and elected not to.
 
I wonder why they elected not to. Maybe they had a budget to stick with on building the new home for WFSB. But Meredith has some of their channels they own in HD, Kansas City and Phionex not sure who else.
 
WTIC's defintely going HD this summer unless Blumenthal or the FCC have anything to say about it. They've been shooting HD tests in the field for a few months now, and the new studio space being built at the Courant will be HD. For my money, neck and neck race between WTIC and WVIT, with WFSB following them sometime, and WTNH going HD... never.
