HD news updates

Am I correct in that all news in Philly is now in HD or at the very least 16x9 with the following exceptions:

WPSG: WakeUp Philly Morning newscast
WCAU: field video, traffic graphics (seems odd since Traffic is right out of traffic pulse offices and the other big 3 use them and have HD graphics)
WFMZ: weather graphics (hopefully this changes soon since they look so out of date compared to the rest of the newscast; plus it will be a year in May since they went HD)

Any additions; deletions?

WCAU's traffic and WPSG Wake Up News are both done from TrafficPulse and they have no HD broadcasting capabilities at the moment.

Oddly, local inserts into GOOD MORNING AMERICA on ABC and THE TODAY SHOW on NBC are reduced to SD on 6 and 10 respectively.

On the flip side though are channel 3's HD local inserts within the SD CBS EARLY SHOW.

Only the weather drop-ins are in SD on ch. 6. The actual news inserts :)25 and :56) are in HD.

They are probably taped segments on 10 which is usually the case in the 9 and 10AM hours and 10 right now can't playback taped programing in HD due to conflicts with pay providers' (Comcast, DirecTV, Verizon, etc) cable boxes. (They ran a test in February and got feedback that people's boxes would shutdown and not restart.) So until they work those issues out, don't expect any taped local programing in HD anytime soon.

It appears NBC10's live field units are now in HD. They still lack recording and rebroadcasting capabilities of HD programs.

Yeah you're quite wrong there. They can record and playback in HD just fine now. Now if you're referring to the 10! show and HD syndicated programming, that's an issue up at their master control hub in New York.

... and a majority of their promos and topicals and ids and cut-ins. They may be able to "record and playback in HD just fine" but they're having are hard time getting a lot of that content to actually air.

When will the master hub control room issue for HD programs for NBC10 be ready in order for NBC10 to broadcast syndicated taped programs?

I have no idea what goes on up at 30 Rock so I can't tell you.

Yeah the topicals and cut-ins are recorded at the station then sent up to 30 Rock but are played back on the server that runs syndicated programming and that at this time is not HD ready from what I understand. The commercial playback server is and a lot of their ID as well as general ads are played back HD. It sucks for them cause NBC has really tied their hands due to their budget issues. What was really poor management was when NBC built the three master control hubs (which in theory is a good concept) but didn't make them HD ready from the start. I mean they were built in '02. The technology was there and they knew eventually they were going to be HD at the station level.

Yeah, the hub model is definitely a wacky set-up. For example, if you're a local/regional advertiser that wants to run an HD spot, you don't send it to the station - you ship it out to LA master control where it's loaded in their server and sent back via fiber for playback.
