HD Radio: 3 Million Sold - And Counting!

And you cannot rely on call-ins or "me and all my friends" for any kind of statistically reliable data.

I'm pretty sure you are right about that. I usually take them with a large grain of salt. The folks who call in are a lot like the people, like us, who post on this and other message boards. They may be “interesting,” but not necessarily typical.

Thanks for the info on the PPM.

The problem with HD is HD. We should have gone with FM extra, that way we could have gone digital still had some digital 1, 2, 3, feeds with a lot less RF interference to others plus it would have caught on with the general public a lot quicker, easier, and more natural. You can generally tell when something seems forced and not natural and HD seems to be that way.

It will be interesting to see how long Ford and other manufactures will support HD. And how many service recalls will be issued to repair problems with no solutions. If consumer feedback sucks then eggs from the golden goose will be cooked.

Wow, I overheard a group of housewives lamenting that very same thing at the local supermarket just the other day...NOT!

Most likely those housewives don't even listen to radio anymore... if they do, it's probably some talk show on AM. Not a single one of my neighbors listens to any radio program except for traffic reports (after which they shut it off immediately) or Cubs games. Although I would imagine even that will drop off if the Cubbies continue to suck.

At least, that is what they tell me (cuz I asked).

All the PPM data I've seen just reinforces it. Last data I saw actually said that in-office listening is the biggest piece of the pie. And you cannot rely on call-ins or "me and all my friends" for any kind of statistically reliable data.

Actually, the PPM can not tell the difference between in-car and at-work listening, and it is listed only as "away from home."

At home listening is the biggest part, followed by in car and at work, based on the diary which had a check box for listening location. And the diary is still used in over 200 markets, vs. 40 for PPM so far.
