HD Radio Comes to NY

Clear Channell launces its all new HD Radio Stations nationwide. Go to www.ktu.com to find out about them. KTU-2 is now country.

I'm listening to KTU-HD2, and it's weird to hear country associated with KTU, (although they bill it as 103.5 only) but hey, if that's what it takes to get country back to NYC, why not? As long as they leave the dance format on WKTU alone!

Also checked out Z100-HD2 for a few minutes. The streams seem pretty good as far as not dropping out/buffering.

Nice to finally see this becoming a reality!

I listen to the Lite FM HD2 channel but what a bad sound quality! Lots of distortion. The other HD2 channels from NYC sounds very good. Lite FM is the only one with a bad sound quality

Re: HD Radio NYC & How CC Can Promote Them

Have the main Clear Channel stations said anything about the new HD 2 stations over the air at all? If Clear Channel wants to tell people about the new HD 2 stations they need to do something. Well anyways the stations sound good. Would of never thought Clear Channel would put Country on a HD 2 station in NYC. But WKTU-HD sounds good as country, I like the jingles. Only bad thing is that WWPR-HD should of went xtreme hip hop instead of latino.

Now what Clear Channel should do to promote these stations off is air them on the FM station for just the weekend. But only one station at a time for that weekend then next weekend they show off on the other station that HD 2 station. For example WKTU would be off for the weekend so they can show New York Country WKTU HD 2 and KTU would return Monday. Then next weekend lite-fm goes off for the weekend to air New York Classic Lite WLTW HD 2 with lite-fm coming back Monday. Then doing the same with Power 105.1 and Q 104.3

Re: HD Radio NYC & How CC Can Promote Them

This morning on 106.7 Lite-FM, Bill Buchner did mention that Lite-FM is now streaming in digital HD radio and that to read more and check out the HD-2 "Classic Lite" channel, you could check out their website. However, I don't regularly listen to any other CC properties in NYC. Maybe someone listening to the others could tell whether or not on-air promotion has been done for HD-2?

The audio quality is bad, but the music is great. Sounds like an AC station circa 1984 (just as advertised).

Gold AC! There's a format!

Re: 103.5 HD2 - New York Country

I actually think Lite Fm HD2 isn't all that bad. They're playing Bonnie Tyler, I already like it. The Z100 HD2 isn't that bad either. If CC wants to promote their new digital broadcasts, mentioning it on air might only go so far. CC really needs to have an An HD giveaway every day... Let people win a new HD radio for their car, and a voucher to get it installed at a discounted rate at a big chain dealer, or a home HD radio instead. Get people the equipment they're gonna need to hear the difference. Costs and lack of the public knowing what HD truly is won't make this HD launch anything profitable. Throw them a prize, show them what it is, and you'll see.
