HD Radio: Confusing Value with Technology

People do not have a problem with the audio quality (which HD/IBOC falsely claims to solve) of analog AM/FM radios (1 billion in the US) - HD Radio does not solve one listener problem, because they don't have any, besides lowsy content ! Satellite Radio solved the listen content problem with AM/FM radio, and so do iPods and Internet Radio !

Give me a break. AM is totally rejected by younger demos, and perceived as being inferior by everyone up to the mid-40's in age. AM is in a death spiral, mostly due to audio quality only 45+ listeners will accept. Every 18 months, the average age increases by 1 year, and soon there will be no listeners in salable demos.

Some broadcasters, like Bonneville and Clear Channel, are moving AM formats like news / talk to FM as they want to recapture the 35-44's they once had. They know that demo will listen to the format, but will not listen to AM due to quality, static, noise, and the fact that there are so few good AM signals in the US.

Most people do not have $150 a year for satellite. Anecdotally, there are stories of people who are cancelling satellite because of the high cost of gas! Terrestrial radio has a one time receiver cost. With HD, there will be many more program options, and the need for satellite will be reduced (something already happening as the potential market for satellite tops out).

This is totally LAUGHABLE ! Look at how many cable TV subscribers there are at $50/month, and all the dialup and cable Internet home connections ! All I have to do, is put doubt in peoples' minds ! :D
