Finally had the oppurtunity to decode the newest member of the HD radio community, AM side. 1250 KKDZ Pigeon Point site, while in downtown Seattle. The radio, a Boston Accoustics receptor with external loop antenna.
It was somewhat difficult to decode the HD signal inside a building. I took the radio outdoors and without hesitation, it locked onto something similar to a top 40 station... Thought whoa, little kids everywhere are gonna be excited! I mean, without all the flattening to their ears, from clubs, loud music installs in cars, and screaming rollercoaster rides, these listeners may very well be the ones who will fully embrace this technology. (subliminal) "may be sometime before it's developed to it's full potential" Absolute brilliance really, I wonder if they will notice any digital artifacts, aliasing, clipping and have the mind set to rotate the loop antenna around in circles to obtain the HD side carrier?
My ears noticed some processing adjustments that may need to be made, almost sounded like they were outside of the bandwidth restrictions, a little bit of aliasing "watery metallic sound". Not bad, I still have my heart partially biased to the old C-quam stereo system, I think it sounds just as good. I like Dxing, and with the "in band on channel" hash during the nighttime, it's made life difficult while filling log books. SHHHHHHHHHHHHHH SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH This is KS SHHHHHHHHHHHH $$$$$$
Thoughts?
KNHC, 89.5, now running HD from Cougar Mountain. This has a slight "hash" effect (no pun) on a station originating from the dream college, Evergreen state down in Olytown. They are adjacent to them at 89.3. However, KNHC has a directional null to the southwest, just to protect my birkenstock wearin hemp enjoying friends to the south.
