HD radio, decoded on AM

Finally had the oppurtunity to decode the newest member of the HD radio community, AM side. 1250 KKDZ Pigeon Point site, while in downtown Seattle. The radio, a Boston Accoustics receptor with external loop antenna.
It was somewhat difficult to decode the HD signal inside a building. I took the radio outdoors and without hesitation, it locked onto something similar to a top 40 station... Thought whoa, little kids everywhere are gonna be excited! I mean, without all the flattening to their ears, from clubs, loud music installs in cars, and screaming rollercoaster rides, these listeners may very well be the ones who will fully embrace this technology. (subliminal) "may be sometime before it's developed to it's full potential" Absolute brilliance really, I wonder if they will notice any digital artifacts, aliasing, clipping and have the mind set to rotate the loop antenna around in circles to obtain the HD side carrier?

My ears noticed some processing adjustments that may need to be made, almost sounded like they were outside of the bandwidth restrictions, a little bit of aliasing "watery metallic sound". Not bad, I still have my heart partially biased to the old C-quam stereo system, I think it sounds just as good. I like Dxing, and with the "in band on channel" hash during the nighttime, it's made life difficult while filling log books. SHHHHHHHHHHHHHH SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH This is KS SHHHHHHHHHHHH $$$$$$

Thoughts?

KNHC, 89.5, now running HD from Cougar Mountain. This has a slight "hash" effect (no pun) on a station originating from the dream college, Evergreen state down in Olytown. They are adjacent to them at 89.3. However, KNHC has a directional null to the southwest, just to protect my birkenstock wearin hemp enjoying friends to the south.

Yes they have indeed added HD to 1250, and since I was in west Seattle in line of sight with the tower I decided to hear how bad it gets around 1250 with the HD added. WOW! No wonder adjacent stations elsewhere in the country are complaining about HD AM!

1210-1240 were total noise, not spill over but digital hash noise! I wonder how severe that is a few more miles away like the county line?

I've heard HD on AM and.....

IT SUCKS!!

FM quality my (expletive deleted)! It sounds worse than some low -fi web feeds I've heard! I personally think monaural analog AM radio sounds better.

I'm sorry, but HD was NOT made or cut out for AM radio - AT ALL. Bring back AM Stereo....

I have spoken....

I have listened to KKDZ in HD and thought is was sounding REALLY good.
True it’s a step below FM; however, it wouldn’t be noticeable to the average
Listener and has some good potential!
KKDZ is the closest thing to CHR on the AM band in Seattle.

As far as the digital hash. Nowone listens to stations around 1250 anyway!
It’s well known that in this market KVI, KHHO, KIRO, KJR, KOMO and KKDZ are
the only AM stations that have active audiences.
Plus their evenly spaced so why worry?

Major:
KIXI - AM is not HD
However they are on KWRM's hd-2 Channel

HD is a failure on multiple levels and fails to deliver on the initial parameters. Had radio adopted aggressive national
formats as a group I chaired suggested HD would have become a player. Pick 100 formats and talent and run them
across the country along with the simulcast of local signals. Now the game is lost. No one feels the need to buy the
HD radios, satellite is way ahead in car parameter penatration and in three to five years internet radio will have WMax penetration in the major markets. The choice of tens of thousands of internet stations, plus local stations on demand, in your car will render HD and most likely Satellite radio a thing of the past. The internet recievers will work in cars with your phone and at home. HD AM has no future, HD is over.

The one thing that might save it is radio working together to quickly invest in 40-50 key HD formats. Give someone a reason to turn to the HD dial quickly.

Amen brother!,

HD AM radio audio has more artifacts than the Smithsonian. Compared to the analog signal, it's unlistenable in my opinion........
