HD Radio from downunder

Hi

KMIK 1580 was very strong tonight (17/6/09). Had the HD logo flashing away on my Sony XDR-F1HD tuner for up to 20secs at a time  - but could not decode audio or read the PSIP data :-[. The audio would occasionally mute as the signal tried to switch to HD mode. The signal was a strong 3 bars on the XDR. Occasionally it would be dominated by KBLA ;D.

Wow, given that you were able to get it to decode, you probably got better reception of KMIK-HD than the 4 owners of an HD radio in Scottsdale could!!

What sort of an antenna are you using for this sort of a catch? Reading some of your posts has me imagining a huge field lined with 10,000 meters' worth of wires!

Speaking of Downunder, my buddy in Oz reports he bought his first DAB+ radio (portable), and is not that excited about it. Said his trusty old Sony C-Quam AM Stereo portable has better range, better battery life, and just as decent if not better audio when listening to the (former) "Magic 693" (standards/EZ listening station) that moved position on the AM dial and was added to the DAB+ stack-up. He prefers the range of AM RF in Victoria vs FM or DAB.
He said NO IBOC radio there at all and only 4 stations had added their DAB+ signals as yet.

Now I know why HD can't be received much beyond 10-20 miles without yagi's. It must through some strange perversion of propagation be transported half way around the world! Amazing!
