HD Radio in Boston.

I was flipping thru the new issue of Rolling Stone (M.Carey on cover) and there was an article about HD Radio/Radio stations. I could be way off so bear with me. Basically a radio station can have up to 3 stations per frequency. It mentioned WAAF in boston as having a "Live music station".

I also recently heard on WBCN they say something about "Broadcasting static free in digital".

Is the BCN thing the same?
Are there more boston stations w/these "formats?"

The cheapest tabletop radio is 499.00 they say so I am sure there are not too many people with them yet. Just curious.

Yup, I got mine for $299 from JR Music World.
VERY NICE radio indeed. Excellent RDBS pickup as well.
Very sensitive RDS pickup. The HD section is nice too.
Good multicasting pick up.

Or he could purchase a satellite radio for $50 and pay 13.00 a month for commercial free radio as well with minimal DJ interference. It would take 19 months at $13 a month before he caught up to the cost of the table top. I am sure in almost 2 years he could grab one for a lot cheaper than $300.

Or, for only 99 cents more, you could buy a lifetime subscription to Sirius satellite radio -- priced at $499.99 (up one c-note from two or three years ago). Of course, radio and accessories are sold separately.

The deal is good for the lifetime of your radio, although I believe they'll transfer it to another radio if it breaks within warranty, and I seem to recall reading somewhere that another such condition would be if the radio were stolen and one can produce a police report. I also read that if you want to upgrade to the latest radio, they'll transfer your subscription for $75 (supposedly with a limit of three such transfers).
