Im really surprised the amount of smaller radio groups that have invested in HD upgrades with so few radios out there, though most new cars now offer HD as a standard feature or at least an option on even the most basic models.

Also isnt it odd that Wilkes has HD on 107.1 but not on either of its stronger signals 96.3 or 95.5.

I'm surprised WNCI is running with Spin Cycle on HD2. I would have ran with Evolution but there's not much that CC Columbus ever does that makes sense.

Thanks for posting this. I thought K107.1 had an HD2, I could never pick it up. Signal isn't strong enough where I am. I must rather have Evolution as well, but with SpinCycle being originated from here, makes sense they have it on there.

Let's not forget 93.3 HD-3 which is Air1 (Christian CHR/Rock) to feed EMF's translator at 99.3

I am surprised that 98.9 does not have an HD-2 yet with WRFD AM 880's 24/7 web stream on it (since they stay streaming content online after the day timer shuts off).

103.5, 104.9, 106.7 and 101.7 in HD makes sense since their transmitter plants are new.

107.1 in HD goes back to the CBS/Infinity days -- I am guessing CBS installed an HD capable transmitter at that site which is why it's in HD while 96.3 and 95.5 run older transmitters (I could be wrong?)

A side note -- 100.3 WCLT was one of the first stations in the market to adopt HD Radio -- They have been supporters for quite a while.

Any one know if 90.5 WCBE is sending out an HD signal? According to the FCC database they filed back in 2011 that they had went digital (Dig Notifi)

Wasn't Qfm96 in HD at one time ?

and as far as 98.9 goes, they have only been running the HD for a couple of weeks now, and they aren't even in sync yet with the analog signal. but i do look for WRFD to be on the HD 2 at some point.

the last one that surprises me is that 99.7 is not in HD yet, they could even throw 920AM onto an HD 2

Believe it or not, I've never once heard any of our HD stations. I don't have any HD receivers at home or in the car and I've never physically been around anyone who does.

They really dropped the ball on this technology.

QFM96 has never been HD. They'd have to purchase a new transmitter and at their power level, it's not cheap.

98.9 has been HD for quite some time. However, their Exporter was set up improperly and most HD receivers treated the signal like an HD2. Once the receiver locked onto the HD1, it would not fail back to analog when the HD dropped out.

I'm surprised that 1039 is not running HD. With the quick transition from their old site to their new site, they must have purchased a new transmitter. However, IMHO, HD is a solution looking for a problem.

Yeah I was going to say - I am surprised that 103.9 is NOT in HD -- then again NABCO does not have HD on their other two stations ... I would not be surprised if 103.9's HD "ready" but not turned up.. Because I am sure they built a new plant for that since they did a pretty quick switch from one site to another so I doubt they moved transmitters from Westerville (I would guess the westerville transmitter equip either will be sold or used as an AUX).

I am sure 99.7 is in the same boat as 96.3 and 95.5 which both don't have HD on them. I am guessing 99.7's transmitter is likely an older model like 96.3's .. both of those stations have been in the market for a long long time -- I also would not be surprised if 95.5 is in that same category.

CC running HD on their stations makes sense since CC is a cash cow .. They had the resources to upgrade WNCI, WCOL, WBWR to IBOC and when they built WCGX and WODC it made good business to install transmitters capable of it (since they bought new) .. for future possible use.

98.9 now switches correctly between HD and analog so Greg has either replaced or reprogrammed their exporter. 98.9 was actually one of the earliest stations in town to have HD but could not run it for some time because the air conditioning at the transmitter site was undersized. HD transmitters are much less efficient than their analog brethren.

To do HD correctly takes more than just an HD capable transmitter. The automation/storage system should use uncompressed audio, the audio processor must have dual processing paths (due to the compression in HD, the audio cannot be clipped) and the STL must be uncompressed with 20KHz bandwidth. Although 95.5 and 96.3 may have new studios, they may not have a suitable audio processor and/or STL. I'm sure that their transmitters were designed long before HD. If memory serves me, 95.5 has 20 to 25 year old Continental and 96.3 has a 20 year old Harris.
