HD Radio in Connecticut

I just saw a post in the NYC board about WKTU-HD2 being country and that CC has rolled out it's second channel HD broadcasts, so I followed the link to WKTU and found that it's not only NYC with this but national, and eventually came upon this link http://www.clearchannelmusic.com/hdradio/ which has each of the HD stations as listen online links, including Hartford and here's the break down of what you would get if you had n HD radio...

WWYZ - Classic Country
WHCN - Deep Tracks
WKSS - Gay Radio/The Pride
WPHH - Classic Hip-Hop

No listings for New Haven yet

As one of the few mid-80's Hip-hop DJ's from CT and still in CT, I will be checking out WPHH-HD2 today and maybe post about it later on.

Can't report on what I can't hear, there's no stream at any of those links, so I figured maybe they haven't done the smaller market yet, and tried KOST in LA (Disco). What I heard doesn't classify as Disco, amongst the tracks ... "Amy Grant - Baby Baby"???

I tried a few other streams in other markets and many of them just aren't up yet, kinda weird hearing a legal ID for WKTU between country songs though.

I'm surprised they didn't put the "Kisspanic/KISS-FM Spanish" on WKSS

On the website you listed above, I don't see KOST's HD-2 station being classified as "Disco" (however, it does look like KBIG is supposed to be playing Disco). Instead, I see KOST's multicast being listed as "KOST Classics (Madonna to Sinatra)." ; )

Yeah, you're right, I did mess up, however, I have more info, turns out it wasn't just clear channel with the HD rollout, I just read on all access that it was all the major groups and that the Hartford stations will begin programming on 02-01-06, so it's going to be a while still.

But in any case, here's CBSRadio Hartford's listings from AllAccess...

AC WRCH HD2 "Jazz"
Hot AC WTIC HD2 "News/Talk/Sports"
Top 40 Rhythmic WZMX HD2 "Hispanic Reggaeton" (I knew someone would have to)

And clear channel springfield...
Starts March 31st
WHYN-FM | Hot AC | HD2 Channel: New CHR
WPKX-FM | Country | HD2 Channel: Americana

If this is true I'm going to have to run out and buy an HD Radio. I LOVE classic country and classic hip-hop (I listen to internet radio stations for each of those genres) and have been waiting for a station that will truly play deep tracks from popular rockers. I'll pass on "The Pride" but I'm psyched about the other three.

No alternative? I would love a WBCN or KROQ feed on a simulcast on a CBS radio station..

No dance?

Were those two wishes too much to ask for? I'm holding out on buying a new radio, which I need, until I see more HD units out, but I suppose it would be useless without one of those two formats I really want. iPod it is for now..

I wonder if WTIC FM would do Dance on HD, since the station had a well established history reguarding breaking Dance tracks when it was a CHR.

I wonder who would end up doing Dance in HD since CBS radio and Clear Channel is denying Dance fans (as well as Modern Rock audiences) a dedicated HD channel. Why do something similar to WTIC AM than playing Dance Music on TIC HD-2?

Jazz is very welcome on RCH HD-2.

A Reggaetón format on HD-2? They better had consulted DJ Kazzanova and DJ Creme to make sure it plays not only currents. There's plenty of music to fill the station and don't sound too repetitive.

If it's going to be like Kiss 95.7, forget it, but if they're going to try to have a better CHR variety, give it a try. Americana on KIX HD-2 would be a nice fit.

I'd definitely be interested in the first two, as well as the Americana format on WPKX Springfield's HD2 stream referenced in a subsequent post. If Buckley plans a deep-playlist '50s and '60s oldies format for WDRC-FM's HD2 stream, I'd start looking for a radio soon. I have XM, and enjoy the classic country formats of America and Hank's Place, but X Country is too scattershot to be a true Americana station and the decades channels, while an interesting concept, provide no easy way for a listener to hear oldies from two or three decades without constantly switching channels.

According to the New York board, New CHR (as heard on 100.3 WHTZ HD-2) airs full albums by artists with facts and tidbits mixed in. I believe Americana launched today in Dallas; not sure exactly what's on it.

A spanish format is nice, but I'm not to sure of all Reggaeton. I think It should be a Tropical format with a heavy rotation of reggaeton.(heavier than WLAT's) It would grab a bigger audience. But you are right the better has consulted Kazz or Creme to make the station sound like WCAA in New York where Kassanova is the Music Director.

Do you think CBS Radio will do the same(have a link like ClearChannel)to hear HD for FREE?
