HD Radio in Iowa

I've been reading about Clear Channel rolling out "hd" radio in various parts of the country and wondering when the major radio companies (DSM Radio Group, Citadel and Clear Channel) will introduce hd here and what type of format's they'll bring here?

WHO and KMXD are already broadcasting in HD. Though, they haven't started multiple formats yet.

I'm thinking of getting an HD radio in the next year or two. I've already got a Sirius radio and I think an HD would be a good addition to add even more variety and programs.

I like the promise of HD b/c we can have local stations that 'fine tune' different formats to select audiences.

Example: KISS 107; CHR-FM, CHR-HD, Rhythmic/CHR HD. PopRock-HD. Thats just for one channel!!!

Interesting that WHO is in HD as the blue hairs that make up the majority of their audience could care less. I wonder how they would program their HD's? Would Air America go for that? Surely they wouldn't go all farming all the time on another sub channel.

The multiple streams is what I find to be exciting about the technology. Imagine KIOA being able to steam a 50's, 60's, & 70's each as their own separate sub channel, KGGO streaming 80's classic rock, deep cuts of classic rock, etc. on their sub channels.

The possiblilites are endless! Come on Des Moines, let's not be last in the nation to get on the bandwagon.

I'm guessing they probably won't launch any sub-channels on their AM signals, since the HD has to be turned off at sunset.

Captain Steve has been in contact with Rob and Eliot at KZIA about leasing one of their HD channels to simulcast KCJJ in Cedar Rapids.

Needless to say, I hope they say yes...

WHO is NOT currently broadcasting digitally. Check the sidebands. No white noise.

From what I 'know', they're supposed to be. However, they may not have it on right now for other reasons. (ie. adjustments)

Why in the world would they want to do that? Isn't there some something out of KZIA they would rather broadcast?

Anyone one have an HD radio?

HD gives you a lot of channels. If someone is willing to pay you for one, why not take the offer? Unless you think Rob is putting a lot of effort into getting Z-Tejano on the air...:)

I wouldn't say HD gives you a LOT of channels.

You can fit up to 3 channels, HD-1, HD-2, and HD-3. HD-3, however, is in mono and very poor quality. HD-1 is your original station.

Really? I thought there were more, for some reason.

Guess you learn something every day...

Has anything developed with this yet? I don't even have an AM stereo radio yet and I already have to start saving for an HD radio.
