HD radio in Mobile

Not that I've been paying attention recently but I've noticed that the HD signals from 96.1 the rocket and light mix 99.9 have been dropped. Jazz has been moved to 107.3 HD2. No WNTM FM HD simulcast to be found anywhere and the ESPN feed has also gone away. The optimistic side of me thinks that CC is preparing to launch new formats on 96.1-2 and 99.9-2 to feed the new 99.5 and 100.3 translators over in Mobile. Certainly they won't be feeding those translators with Foggy Mountain, the jazz station, or the alternative station. If CC plans to put WNTM on 99.5 I assume they can go the full 250 watts relaying the AM but the smart money seems to be WNTM going on a HD-2 frequency and landing on 100.3 with 250 watts on the tall tower in Spanish Fort.

Anyone know anything about what's going on behind the closed doors at CC Mobile?

It's been like this for a long time. I too would love to peek at CC's plans, if any.

I say "if any" because at this point, I've become a huge pessimist towards this market's HD because of how poorly it's run. There's been no progress on 99.5 and 100.3 in what… six, nine months now? Up in Birmingham they had translators moved and on air in half that time, it seems.

96.1 and 99.9 have been off for several months. Probably before Thanksgiving, maybe even since this summer. WKSJ keeps plugging away with classic country on 94.9-2 but they've totally botched the processing of the main channel and let the sync get completely off. TK 101's alt. rock is back on their -2 but it sounds like it's being delievered over a telephone line.

More than anything, there's probably been some sort of equipment failure that will never be repaired, instead of preparing to launch new stations. Again, that's just me being all negative and stuff. I do secretly keep hoping to be proved wrong, but "radio never lets me down" so to speak. ;)

And lest I let Cumulus off the hook, they've screwed up WDLT's HD and I can't get it to decode anymore. The radio SAYS it's locked but the blend over never happens. So now the cleanest, strongest HD signal in the market is 'off limits' so why even keep it on? ::)

Well, assuming WNTM is headed for a translator in Mobile it makes more sense to feed it from a station with a COL of Mobile. A station legal ID for WNTM 100.3/710 mentioning WRGV 107.3-HD2 Pensacola-Mobile wouldn't be right.

How long has the Jazz been off 99.9 and on 107.3?

Then there's the slim possibility that someone at the FCC will decide Cumulus has too many overlapping signals in this area and require Cumulus to sell WCOA AM & FM to CC. That would solve several programming issues... Like creating a solid string of five CC FM News/Talkers along the Gulf Coast from Tally to New Orleans. (Does CC have any FM News Talk in Baton Rouge or Lafayette?)

unless WJBO in Baton Rouge is on an FM translator, which I don't believe they are - CC only has AM (1150) News Talk in Baton Rouge - although it is the news talk powerhouse in town

They both carry the trifecta of Glenn Beck, Rush, and Hannity from 9 AM to 5 PM

WRNO carries Levin from 8 to 11, WJBO from 9 to midnight

WJBO has Michael Berry and Michael Castner (2 hours each) to bridge the gap, while WRNO has John Osterlind from 5 to 8

Both stations have Coast To Coast AM on until 4 AM, so with the exception of morning and evening drive - they are virtually identical in program coverage.
