HD Radio in Sacto

I'm a new owner of an HD Radio in my car.
After about a week of listening, here's my first impression:

  • Impressed with the number of stations simulcasting their analog
  • Not impressed with the production value of some of the HD-2 stations
  • While 107.9, 106.5 and 100.5 do an excellent job, others like 103.5 and 90.9 need to work on the blend from analog to digital and back.
  • KFBK-AM sounds terrible in HD. It's so shrill it's nearly unlistenable.
  • Kudos to Radio Disney and KHTK on AM, they sound AMAZING!

It looks like I've joined the 5% of folks that own and listen to HD Radio.

Anyone else? :)

I totally agree on your AM assesment of those three stations. Of all the offerings I frequent 96.9 hd-2 the most. (The Delta, roots and blues)

I own one and live in LA where the choices are mediocre. Ultimately, I'd like to see growth in HD. Right now it's like FM in the 1940's.

While I like the added variety, I don't care much for the audio. The HD-2 channels sound more like an internet stream to me instead of CD quality. I prefer analog sound.

I'd love if Entercom put 106.5-2 on the analog carrier!! Great selection of music and deep tracks.

UPDATE: All previous comments aside, I've had a chance to sample all of what HD has to offer in Sacramento. I like what I hear. I'm mostly disappointed with how the HD2's are presented. Many of them sound like Winamp on Shuffle. Imaging is horrendous. I've heard pirate stations that sound more produced. :)

However, a few HD2's do a nice job so kudos to them.
