I have not had an HD Receiver in SF yet, but have been monitoring HD Radio in Chicago and Milwaukee.....
The HD signal does not go as far as the analog version. It is pretty close to the Grade "A" limits.
Those stations running HD-2 and HD-3... the main HD signal is surprisingly nice. A little more compression, but the high end is still better than analog. Your Larry Lunchbox listener will not hear the compression.
As far as receivers, I was TOLD that there are a bunch on ships on the way with teh HD Radios and are due here early September. I guess there was a chip that needed to be manufactured.
One other company that is selling lower cost HD Radios is Radiosophy
www.radiosophy.com. Our company has 4 of them on order and could do a review when we get them.
