hd radio in the valley

I have just one question about hd radio here in nepa. Why in other markets are they splitting the fm signal so you can hear a totally different format on hd,yet here everyone seems to want to put just the analog fm on hd instead of a different format.Does that make any sense? It seems to me that the variety would attract prospective buyers not the sound. For free radio lets face it,a regular analog sound is enough as far as I'm concerned. What does this valley have against variety? If I'm wrong tell me why.

I think subchannels for many of Wilkes Barre's stations are in the works. www.HDRadio.com shows that EZ103 is getting a Jazz subchannel, The Mountain will have a Live Rock channel and I think KRZ and Froggy will also have HD-2's soon.

Seems like Entercom is ahead of Citadel as I've heard 103.1, 102.3, 101.3 and 98.5 in HD already. Am I missing any in Wilkes Barre?

Today the FCC granted the Entercom Scranton-WB secondary channel authorization requests. This means they can now broadcast the HD2 channels. I heard they're close to ready to go....I think Froggys going to be new country tunes; EZ to be smooth jazz; and Mtn to be Live Rock. I thought WVIA was close to being up and going with HD also. I haven't seen anything regarding secondary channels for Citadel. Temple is HD in Philly; I haven't heard anything about them doing HD in this area. By the way; the FCC made HD radio officially legal last week (it will no longer be considered experimental). They also will now allow HD for AM stations at night and will allow FM translators and FM boosters to operate with HD. A new HD repeater unit is coming on the market 4th quarter 2007 that will allow for simple rebroadcasting of the HD signal by FM translators, FM boosters, and Full power FMs that rebroadcast other full power FM's. This is an important innovation to allow easy repeating of the HD signals. at a lower cost per site. The inventer of this product is just up the road in Ithaca, NY! Saw it at the NAB last week.

sounds like just another dumb option. stick with analog. seems like satellite looking even better for consumers. say goodbye local radio. you are going into extinction.
