HD Radio is not "High Definition"

I've heard both WFLA and Q105 refer to their HD channels as "High Definition."
Don't they realize that HD means "Hybrid Digital" and not "High Definition?"
Actually, in the case of Q105, their analog audio is capable of higher definition than their highly compressed (MP3ish) HD audio.
 
You're just realizing this now? It's been a ploy on iBiquity's behalf to try and dupe potential HD radio buyers for years!
 
No. I've noticed it for a long time. It's just getting more annoying ... or perhaps I'm getting older and crabbier.

I've heard that it doesn't mean "Hybrid Digital" either. The HD name was just ibiquity trying to piggyback on the popularity of HDTV. Can sound even be described with the word "definition"? I thought that word only applied to picture quality. And yes, I've noticed that a bunch of stations sound better in analog than HD. There are ones that sound better in HD at first, but after a while the sound becomes annoying.
