HD Radio Poll at RBR.com

The Radio Business Report newsletter and web site are taking a poll of their readers re whether they plan to roll out HD radio, and if so over what time period. As of early AM Monday 8/15, the results are:

Plan to turn on in the next 12 months: 8.7%
Plan to turn on in the next 24 months: 4.35%
Plan to turn on possibly someday: 19.57%
Never plan to turn on, would be a waste of time: 67.39%

Since RBR is read almost exclusively by broadcasting professionals, these numbers are quite telling.

I'm surprised the number planning to turn it on soon or someday is so high. Most of the roll outs heretofore have been megatechcomcorp stations via edict from on high. All that's really left are smaller companies and mom-n-pop operations.

Maybe this should read:

Plan to launch unique translator programming in the next 12 months: 8.7%
Plan to launch unique translator programming in the next 24 months: 4.35%
Plan to launch unique translator programming possibly someday: 19.57%
Never plan to turn on, would be a waste of time: 67.39%

Excellent and so true, spunker! I'd bet the 12-month horizon (8.7%) comports neatly with stations who have a strong current lead on acquiring an analog translator and the far "someday" view (19.57%) fits with those eyeing a possible translator flowing from any resolution of the LPFM Donnybrook.

Got an FM? Go HD-2. Get a translator, get another analog FM. Amaze your friends! Confound your competitors! No HD receiver necessary!!

Collect the whole set!!
