Rumor has it that an hd radio explosion is coming soon....
Stations see the payola deal as an opportunity
This is the business model...

Jack or Jill from Olyphant will send in a group of songs via email and have them played back on the new hd radio chanell on a pay for play basis....
They will even get to voice track there own show and be a star !! WOW
at 50 dollars and hour do the math boys... I smell money....
This is gonna be great... The question is ... is it a show before you put it on the air or when it comes out of the speakers.....???????????????????????????????
????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

And yet, what I hear in the business is that HD radio might have the life span of AM stereo. The extra channel(s) might be a good legal "play for pay" outlet, a sampling of what's new out there. They certainly won't be competition for what's on the main channel; that would be suicide. Or stationcide. I think what will remain, after all the new stuff comes out and the dust settles, will be traditional vs satellite. HD, like quad, will end up dusty in the basement.<P ID="signature">______________

Oh ye of little faith. My mother used to say " a little knowledge is a dangerous thing". The experimental licenses that come with HD 2 applications come with a promise of no commerce whatsoever for 18 months. A giant, commercial free, digital stereo opportunity to light up a whole new " band" with a great new sound, a niche format or a brand and/or line extention that would have not been feasible prior. And, unlike AM stereo, which was put out with competing formats of technology( sort of like beta vs VHS), the improved sound was noticible but slight.HD rocks, sounds better than CD and unless the industry doesen't properly get the auto industry to embrace it, it should be " the silver bullet" that insures terrestrial radio's future, ad infinitum.
