HD Radio Update

Supposedly WMOT is going the HD route (probably stinging from the fact my "alma mater" beat them to the punch!) with jazz on 89.5 (HD2) and old time radio shows on 89.5 (HD3)

My three part question...

A) how many outlets in Nashville have HD offerings right now?

B) what are their formats?

C) does it merit me buying an HD tuner?

WMOT has been in HD for some time now.. but they're just now beginning to migrate other format to HD-2 channel.

If you have a new car that doesnt have it, good luck on replacing the radio! WPLN does an excellent job on HD. 102.5 seems to have totally messed it up. WLAC-AM is on HD-2 if you like Rush in high fidelity. WSIX-HD2 is just good ole beer drinking music with no commercials EX CE LLENT!.

Sideband stations in the Nashville market:

89.5 WMOT (HD2 reported on here but I haven't heard it before)
90.3 WPLN-HD2 & WPLN-HD3 (NPR programming, classical, etc.)
97.9 WSIX-HD2 (new country)
101.1 WUBT-HD2 (smooth jazz)
102.5 WPRT-HD2 (gospel, also on 102.1 FM translator)
105.9 WNRQ-HD2 ("Radio Radio" classic alternative)
105.9 WNRQ-HD3 (simulcast of 1510 WLAC news/talk)
107.5 WRVW-HD2 ("Future Radio" new CHR)

Here is a suggestion. Maybe someone who actually has some degree of input at WKDF could read this message forum and actually get their HD2 station started. I suggest WKDF do a classic KDF channel with rock from their Progressive and AOR days, but this time without all of bubblegum and cheesy eighties music sprinkled in between the songs. The station could range with artists from the Progressive rock days (Country Joe and the Fish and so on) to rock from their AOR era (Aerosmith). Deep cuts mixed with the better known rock tunes that shaped their rock sound over the years. Maybe someone could dig up old station promos and station Ids. We could hear Bob Cole giving His classic 103.3 fresh air or the classic train whistle ID. That would be sweet.

Another station in New York is doing a classic WNEW FM format, but that station plays Indie music mixed with classic rock hits. I know many of you would love to see a true oldies station also. It seems as though those formats are left out of the HD mix in Nashville. Anyway, it is worth a thought! 8)

For the sake of this crazy suggestion (crazy because there is a better chance that Vandy will play in the BCS game):

Bob Dylan: Watching The River Flow

Steve Miller Band: Brave New World

The Doors: The End

The Rolling Stones: Jigsaw Puzzle

Anyway, just an idea!

WMOT's HD signal has been very unreliable since I moved to the area in the summer of 09. It was often off the air for weeks at a time, and would come back briefly before going off again.

It has been completely off for several months now. The last record I have of any HD being on the air was around June of last year.

Hopefully (for them, not me as a DXer) they can get their technical issues worked out, as they seem pretty serious, whatever they are/were.
