HD Radio updates only

Can I reserve HD4 for 100.7 The Naughty Word? I can play explicit rap music 24/7.
Something tells me Chuck Tiller, or Salem, would not go for that. What I was jokingly referring to was the audible difference between Houston's and DFW's "The Word". KKHT has no stereo, no HD, and somewhat of a muffled audio. KWRD-FM has no HD, however, broadcasts in full stereo with a rich, clean, bright sound. When you compare the two, it is almost akin to night and day, especially when a musical presentation is being broadcast. I guess you'd just have to hear the difference in the two stations to completely understand the superior audio quality of KWRD-FM. I'm not sure why there is a difference, as I would wager a guess that the same engineering team likely set up both stations.

KKHT has been in stereo for at least the past couple of years, and still in stereo at a check just now. I seem to recall Chuck Tiller posting that the station has been using a backup transmitter that might not be able to operate in mono. The station had previously been in mono since the Salem purchase.

This is why I was asking about the new transmitter for KKHT a few posts earlier. Chuck had teased that late last year.

KKHT has tended to have somewhat low audio when I’ve tuned across it recently. Not as crisp and bright as it could be, but I don’t find it muffled.

I would think a new transmitter and related audio chain equipment would solve any KKHT issues.

Yeah I don’t think any Christian station would go for that. I’ve never really listened to much of either station but I’m sure KKHT sounds good far away being a rimshot and running mono. I’ve only heard music late at night.

Back to the updates it seems like KKBQ HD2 has finally fixed the Artist field this time. I’ve noticed it a few days ago but I’ve just wanted to make sure.

KPFT HD2 is off again though :cautious:

Ha! Why not go ahead and run our version of 100.7 The Word on your HD3, while you're at it, and really blow some people's minds down there? Might even have to fire up the stereo pilot on KKHT for that one.
Funny you mention that; we've actually have done this before. During the big freeze a couple of years ago, the studio lost power. Our chief engineer and his department of one, retuned a computer at the transmitter site and tuned it to KWRD, I reached out to PD David Darling in Dallas, who put together a multi city legal ID. The roads to KNTH was impassible. My intentions were to simulcast KLUP in San Antonio. I selected that station instead of KSKY in Dallas was due to that station airs Sean Hannity. KTRH airs Hannity here in Houston, which makes that a bog no-no.

Interestingly enough, 106.9 The Eagle made its way clear up here to Tyler this morning, complete with HD lock. Totally wiped out the much closer 106.9 The Blaze from Ore City.

Houston radio fans do not care about Micro-Trivia like when a station's RDS is off, then on again hours later.
I'm only reporting the HD changes and including RDS info whenever it's a part of it. That's what I'm using this thread for so feel free to ignore it 🙃

It could help someone try to get a different station if they want while the HD is off.

96.5 KHMX HD is currently off. Earlier in the night they were dead air with no HD or RDS. The RDS came back with the audio.

Last night KPFT was completely off the air for a bit.
