Just noticed some additional subchannels on the Hope Media stations, now sure how long they’ve been around, but they are all different Asian-language Bible translations from “dot.bible”.

    • HD2 - Urdu
    • HD3 - Vietnamese
    • HD4 - Thai
  • 91.7
    • HD3 - Igbo

The programming is produced by International Scripture Ministries. Must have been added in the last week or two.

BTW Igbo is an African language, spoken in SE Nigeria, plus a large diaspora.

I did hear a local ID for KHVU HD-3 on the Igbo channel, presume the other languages do the same.

Spoken word content on these subchannels won’t take up much bandwidth, so the existing music channels should be unaffected.

Not many radios even support that
I was unaware that HD-5 (or above) was even a thing until the WWWT thread I linked. Someone posted a picture of a radio that could go up to HD-8. But I wonder what percentage of HD radios have the capability to tune anything past an HD-4. Can't tell on receivers that have a video screen as the display.
Didn’t 88.7 have HD5 at one time?
Not that I am aware of.

When KUHF first added HD (before the 91.7 purchase) there was an HD-2 which was the reverse of what was on the main channel. During hours when the main 88.7 ran Classical Music, the HD-2 had spoken word programming. When the main had spoken word, the HD-2 had classical. The launch of Classical KUHA in 2011 resulted in the main channel being reformatted as all spoken word, with a KUHA simulcast on 88.7 HD-2.

XPoNential Radio was eventually added as 88.7 HD-3, and a reading service for the visually impaired as an HD-4. The reading service had been on a 67 kHz SCA subcarrier of 88.7 for many years; I understand that SCA channel is now gone (haven't checked for myself in a long time.)

The various KUHF HD services were also broadcast as audio-only channels of KUHT Channel 8, with the reading service on 8.5, the main KUHF programming on 8.6, Classical on 8.7, and XPoNential Radio on 8.8. The reading service is still on 8.5, but the other audio channels were dropped in 2019, about the time of the TV digital repack. Those TV audio-only channels might be what you are thinking about.

(Those KUHT "audio-only" channels actually included a text graphic that gave the audio lineup of the station, so a token video presence. However no video on the current 8.5.)

It’s been about a year or 2 since I’ve checked SCA but the only one in this area is KPFT 67 kHz. They have Radio María Spanish. KOJO out of Lake Charles also has that SCA.

yeah, those are starting to pop-up in other places. In DFW, KAWA-HD4 is airing a Hindi-language translation, while in California, KWVE placed Spanish, Mandarin and Vietnamese translations on their HD2, HD3 and HD4 channels.

I think we may be seeing more of these "dot.bible" translations popping up on HD subchannels, and Hope Media may be leading the way. Hope has 7 other HD stations without HD4 subchannels (plus KKWA in OR which does have HD4) that could see some foreign language translations being added to subchannels.
