HD Radio updates

I just listened to K231CN and KCDF for a few minutes and they are different programming. 94.1 has 2 pastors preaching in spanish, a woman and a man. There's a guy translating in english and there's sometimes a piano in the background. 96.1 is just a woman preaching in spanish with no translation or piano. KCVE is also the same as KCDF.

Noticed a lack of up-to-date HD metadata on all of the Audacy stations as of late. They're just showing the station name and some sort of advertisement about the Audacy app, as opposed to song title/artist data. If I disable HD, RDS on KILT and KKHH does show the song title/artist, as well as the call letters rather than the moniker.

The song title and artist are no longer showing on the KKHH RDS without HD.

Just checked and the only Audacy HD station with song info is KLOL HD1. I’ve never seen song info on HD2

Also most of the translators are overpowered and most interfere with other stations.
I noted you've made that comment before. Is that just an assumption, or have you made actual measurements to backup the observation? Just curious how you know.

It is an assumption. I don’t have the gear to actually measure field strength. But I’ve checked out these translators in multiple locations and they get out about 55 miles. I’ve heard some of the translators in Shepherd, New Waverly, and east of Navasota. They also have very similar coverage as KAMA. How can a station under 100 watts have similar coverage as a 10,500 watt station with similar height. I believe 106.1 is running legally at 40 watts (and not originating programming) but 92.5 is 10-12 watts weaker gets out so much further than 106.1 in directions it’s not supposed to be heard in. The vast majority of other translators and LPFMs in the area seem to have accurate contour maps but these illegal translators far exceed them.

I feel like if these translator operators are fine originating programming then they’re fine cranking up the power.

I will no longer be discussing translators in this HD Radio thread unless it relates to HD subchannels

Noticed that too. KILT's still showing full RDS, but on HD it is still showing an advertisement to "Downlowd" the Audacy app, complete with spelling error.

Thanks to Mrtejano for reporting. KAMA HD4 now goes by “Radio Visión Latina 106.1”.

I hope CMG isn’t also planning on dropping subchannels. KKBQ, KHPT, & KGLK HD2 are currently silent. The text is the station’s call sign-HD2 in the artist field and nothing in the title field.

And for Audacy so far the only changes is KHMX dropped HD2 and HD3 as first reported by Huff on here.

All 3 are back

KLTN 102.9 HD 1 is just silent while HD 2 and HD3 are working fine.
So it happend for at least 6 minutes so I turned HD off on my radio. And the regular FM kept shutting on and off then I heard static for a few seconds then back on FM. Didn’t turn HD back on, will listen when I get out of work

KLTN HD1 has been skipping since yesterday. By skipping I mean it has small silent spaces.

For example

DMorning this orning temp will be in the low and highs in the. Traffic is running smooth on and also on highway both directions.

I’ve also noticed recently KMJQ HD2 and KGLK HD3 sound pretty bad.
Also for TUDN radio KAMA HD3 is slightly further ahead than KLTN HD2. KQBU is much further ahead. They don’t include KAMA HD3 in their ID but they do say KQBU HD2 which I’ve never seen HD.

KMJQ HD-2 has been frequently plagued by low audio and other distortion issues throughout its entire existence.

I’m puzzled as to why Radio One keeps the 102.1 HD-2 going with the Praise format when it is openly available on 92.1, and in HD there as well. I’ve long suspected the HD-2’s existence, as well as the continued co-branding of both options, is to make listeners aware of a fallback option should there be a flip of sale of KROI.

We’re coming up on the two year anniversary of the revival of the Praise format on 92.1, and it has not done any better than the rhythmic CHR it replaced, with numbers wobbling around in the zeroes. While a format change or station sale in the next six months might seem likely, I am becoming increasingly jaded about that possibility. It appears Radio One is content to stuff 92.1 with more infomercials rather than make any positive improvement.

Mean while even KAMA HD4 has been sounding better than KLTN HD1.

No issues to report on KLTN HD2 or HD3.
