"The August 31st Clear Channel submission also included a J.P. Morgan
study on HD radio, iBiquity corporation's version of digital radio,
suggesting that the relatively new technology will not boost revenues." :D

No wonder, Clear Channel has been studying adding advertisements to the HD channels - it will happen, like everything else ! :D

Yea, pay $300 for an ugly Receptor HD radio, all for the same terrestrial garbage, including advertisements - HD Radio is not free, iBiquity gets part of the outrageous prices for HD radios ! :D Yea, HD Radio will not boost revenues, because no one is buying into this farse ! :D

"In such a short time, other formats like satellite radio, Internet-only radio, podcasts, MP3s and iPods have laid AM/FM radio in its grave. Although the most current Arbitron research from 2004 shows that 94% of people 12 and older still listen to traditional radio, current research is showing that younger audiences are getting their music and verbal journalism by downloading or streaming on the web." :D

Nobody in radio believes HD will increase revenues. It is intended to keep free radio viable, not to increase revenues. Duh!!!!!!!

Many of the HD2 channels already have ads, and the model contemplates ads being there as well. Nobody said it would be commercial free.

You can add all the smileys you want. The second "nugget" is an opinion from a blog, and the first one is not a revelation.

Why don't you post some more Amazon statistics or something...

Funny, no one ever mentioned that HD Radio will not bring in enough revenue - this is HUGE ! :D The blog, was just to add insult to injury ! :D Clear Channel is already admitting that HD Radio is a failure ! :D

Oh, no you don't - you have repeatedly touted that HD Radio would be commercial free. And, that was part of the point in HD Radio, to bring in more revenue - oh, and how you kept stating how the HD channels would be commercial free ! The only way to keep radio viable, especially in a losing listener market, is to increase revenues - Duh !!!!! :D Oh, how the truth is starting to come out ! GOTCHA ! :D

Where did they admit that HD Radio is a failure. Quote please?

Another lie, I bet.

The fact that it will not bring in additional revenue, means it is a failure !

Not if that wasn't the point. Prove that they admitted it was a failure.

Here we go again. Lies!

I always know when you're backed into a corner. You repeat your posts.

Show me the quote where ClearChannel admitted failure. You said it, you prove it. Show me where ClearChannel said that it would be successful only if they brought in additional revenue. Only then can you say it failed.

The fact that it will not bring in additional revenue, means it is a failure !
That applies to any new, "technology".

Still can't provide the facts, huh? Just another lie!

Funny...if it's true, why can't you give us the quotes?

:D

The entire purpose of HD was to bring digital audio to AM and FM radio as a path to the future.

There are only 100% shares of listening in any market. A percentage of that 100 will go to HD2 as it develops. Stations will have more formats and more targets to sell, and also have increased expenses. However, they will have a digital medium, which should help terrestrial radio in the future.

FM stereo did not bring any more money to FM stations. In fact, it was a flop, financially for the ealy adopters int he first years... first 6 or 7 years, in fact. But it made FM more viable in the long run. But it can not be proven it made sense directly. Same goes for HD... it is an investment in improving the competitiveness of radio vs. other media.

The HD Radio Alliance needs to generate a considerable amout of revenue from HD Radio, especially considering the millions and millions of dollars spent so far on advertising and development. The iBiquity investors are getting restless, because they were expecting a payback to begin two years ago, at the five year mark, and so far, nothing. The HD channels will have to begin advertising, to generate additional revenue, but that is not what everyone has been hearing. At first, there will be no advertising, until they have suckered in enough (very unlikely) consumers, then the advertising will begin. This has just confirmed, what I have suspected all along - that HD Radio is a complete fraud and failure !

No they dont need to generate "generate a considerable amout of revenue from HD Radio". That is not the reason behind why HD Radio is being laid out. But since you have no business (or any other) sense, it doesnt surprise me that you cannot comprehend that concept.

HD Radio does not need to generate revenue. That is not the reason behind that. But since you have no business, or any other sense, I am not surprised you cannot comprend that.

I can do the same thing

Gee David,

I don't think that is what you've said in the past. I've posted the question of ROI for IBOC several times on this and other boards. Seems to me like you've always said that the increased revenue would come form the additional channels. Maybe it will, but I don't see that as happening without a lot of extra work and expense.

For small stations like mine, it's hard to get all "warm and fuzzy" about spending a lot of money without a reasonabe chance of making a positive return on the investment. Adding additional channels merely fragments our potential audience, which doesn't sound all that appealing.

I think a lot of other small station owners feel the same way.
