HD RADIO

Santa brought me an HD car radio. This is the first I've heard it and so far I'm impressed!
The "HD-2" stations are interesting to listen to, mostly because no commercials, just music and sweepers. My daughter normally listens to KISS but loves the CHR station on KPLX H2. The Beatles on KLUV HD2 is pretty lame (I have a fun oldies format I'll loan 'em!)...and overall, it is very obvious little, if any, effort is being put into the HD2 signals. But it is cool having more choices, I just wish the HD2 formats were more diverse than the HD1 signals (ala KPLX).
On AM, it is remarkable how well it sounds. The only problem is that the signal must be strong enough ... if it is even slightly fading out the HD will drop back to analog. Radio Disney is bad about that. KAAM hangs in there pretty good and it really sounds close to FM quality and in stereo of course. The ticket kicks in most of the time but the dynamics are less noticeable on a talk station.
This is what hdradio.com shows...but the ABC stations aren't listed so it may not be complete:
Does anyone know where a complete and accurate list is located?

Uh - 107.5 has been "Movin" for a long time. If you are going to plant a pro-IBOC post, at least give accurate, up to date information. I seriously doubt "Movin" is still putting Jazz on its HD-2 channel.

"Much of "The Oasis" programming continues on this website and on 107.5 HD-2 (HD Radio needed)."

Yeah ! Santa brought me an HD radio too ! I love it , it sounds great ! I have to agree with steve, KLUV HD 2 could use your help ! lol also "Lone Star 92.5 KZPS HD -2 sounds killer programming wise ! Y'all enjoy !

I've had my HD radios in the car and the home since November.

I love the sound of AM in HD, but HD in AM is not permitted for various tech reasons. Anyways, Legends 770 sound great in HD.

Now the difference of FM to FM HD is not that noticable. It's most helpful when listening to WRR 101.1 when those really quietr parts in classical music come through with no static at all. That's nice!

As to programming, I like 107.5's Jazz. Other than that, there's no HD2 channel that I consistently like. The 98.7 Beatle channel is great, except when they're playing "Hey Jude" or "The Long And Winding Road" (snore....)

KZPS (CC) chose this "Southern" Rock thing for their HD2. (Snore....again)

93.3's HD2 could have been what the Mteroplex seems to ignore...... Hard Rock for White people. I mean the "other" demogaphics are certainly getting represented.
I do -not- consider the Bone's "White Trash" format on it's HD1 channel of ANY value......

It's just coporate hell, but now on more channels !!

I am hoping that 101.1 and 90.1 will have the integrity to come up with something better for their HD 2 channels than CC and Clueless have !

Not so much a problem with the car HD Radio.... but the heavy bass levels that some stations are mising into their HD channels are just too much for my bottom of the line Radio Shack Accurian HD Radio 2" speakers to handle. Even on the preset with the least amount of Bass.... it's still too much for those 2" speakers. But hey, I spent a lot less on the RS model than the $200- $300 home models!!

That post always reminds me of the story Rick Sklar mentioned in his book. When he would come to Dallas to do jingles at PAMS, after they mixed the jingles, he'd have them play them through the cue speaker of the mixing console. The cue speaker was typically a small speaker similar to what one would find on a transistor or small portable radio. His logic was that often what sounds great on a large expensive speaker doesn't always translate to a small speaker. The reality is that only a very small segment of the listeners actually listened with high tech equipment, thus the need to be sure it sounds great for both the "tuned ear" and the less so. It's still a good lesson.
