HD Radio or IBOC is the prime reason radio engineers should not do ludes. ;-)vsa said:

Imagine: 106.7 spraying digital on the top half of 106.9 and the bottom half of 106.5 while both aforementioned sprayed on stations can stomp on KROQ's HD carriers. Not to mention 106.7's digital carriers lean right against the digital carriers of 106.3 and 107.1. Maybe that's what HD stands for in predicting its success; Highly Doubtful.
Actually, that's a much better idea as you can broadcast audio only DTV channels (New Jersey Network does this) with the same coverage as the main DTV channel. KCBS & KCAL can both handle the LA CBS radio stations in 192kbit Dolby Digital in 2.0 or 5.1 if the genre has enough material.vsa said:

oh and regarding the signal that transports those wonderfully distorted 48k data streams... they are signals at 1/100th the power level of the main station. so if you're listening to kroq which i believe is about 6500 watts... that means the hd signal is 65 watts... on and where oh where do they put that 65 watts? well half of it goes on the high side of 106.5 (of which there is a 106.5 in san diego) and the other half goes on 106.9. guess what happens when the summer weather kicks in and the san diego stations start to come in up in orange county... bye bye to the hd signal.
i don't think they would have come up with something this bad if they had been on ludes, they must have been on something much stronger.. perhaps something we have never heard of

I posted this observation over a year ago and it remains true.
